# Official Languages (Amendment) Bill **AN ACT TO** amend the Official Langauges Act to reduce bureaucracy and unnecessary government services. *Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:—* **Repeals** **1** Part V of the Official Languages Act shall be repealed in its entirety. **2** Part VII of the Official Languages Act shall be repealed in its entirety. **3** Parts IX and X of the Official Languages Act shall be repealed in its entirety. **Laws concerning the conduct of provincial authorities** **4** Section 7 (3a) of the Official Languages Act shall be rewritten to read "a law made by the Legislative Assemblies of any territories or provinces other than Quebec, or any instrument made under any such law, or". **5** Section 22b of the Official Languages Act shall be rewritten to read "in municipalities in which a French-speaking population exceeds 35% of the total." **Other amendments** **6a** Section 39 (1a) of the Official Languages Act shall be rewritten to read "Canadians, without regard to their ethnic origin or first language learned, have equal opportunities to obtain employment and advancement in federal institutions." **6b** Section 39 (1b) shall be struck from the Official Languages Act." **Short title** **7** This Act may be referred to as the "Official Languages (Amendment) Bill". **Coming into force** **8** This Act shall come into force 180 days after receiving Royal Assent.
