# Nest DAO kickoff call notes **Hangout Date:** 18th September 2019 **Agenda:** - The grant allocation process with the Nest DAO - Questions about the new process (and what needs to be documented) - Testing and agreeing on DAO settings and timeline for deployment - Starting the Nest working group **Hangout attendees:** * Beth McCarthy * Bingen * Burrrata * Cem Dagdelen * Louis Giraux * Luke Duncan * Yalda Mousavinia * Aaron * Joe Charlesworth ## **The process with the Nest DAO / Testing and agreeing on DAO settings and timeline for deployment** * A test Nest DAO has been created on Rinkeby [here](https://rinkeby.aragon.org/#/testnest) by Aragon One. The objective of this test Nest DAO is to go through the grant allocation process and validate the design. * The test Nest DAO has been set up with following parameters: * Min Quorum: 50% [There is currently a UI bug on the application relating to this] * Support required to pass a vote: 66% * A dedicated “Approvals” app has also been created to facilitate the process (more info below) * After testing, the test Nest DAO wil be deployed on mainnet. * The Nest grant application is divided into 2 phases: * Phase 1 * Applicants submit a proposal id outlining their idea. This takes place on Github and typically represents the first point of contact between the project and the Aragon community. * Once the project gets the green light from the Aragon Association, or have waited more than 30 days for a response, they immediately pass to the Request For Funding (RFF) stage (Phase 2) * Phase 2 * The “Approvals” app is then used to trigger a vote in the Nest DAO, which will take place in the “Voting” app. [AA will be responsible for initiating the approval] * Members of the Nest DAO then need to vote on whether or not to accept or reject a RFF. * If accepted, the vote will inform the “Finance” app to withdraw the funds. * This process will be documented further and Louis will add it to the Aragon Wiki * In summary, the main thing that is going to change from the current working process is how RFFs are validated. **Expectations of Nest DAO members** * Be alert, available and get involved in the discussion relating to Nest DAO applicants. * When required, Louis may ping relevant members to participate in the discussion on Github if he thinks they have relevant knowledge/experience to contribute. **Questions about the new process (and what needs to be documented)** *“Are we going to have a mock proposal to test the workflow?”* The test Nest DAO has been created for this purpose and already has some test transactions in. A screenshare by Luke was done to show the current workflow. *“Removals and admissions of Nest DAO members”* * Members may be removed from the Nest DAO if they are not acting appropriately. The AA has the power to mint and burn tokens which will effectively admit or remove Nest DAO members. * For example, if a member is not participating in the Nest DAO, a request to burn their membership token will be made. * Both the AA and the voting app have been given permissions to mint and burn tokens. *“Member etiquette”* * If members of the Nest DAO are also involved in the team that has requested the Nest grants, they should refrain from voting. They may be removed from the Nest DAO if they do. * Given that members of the Nest DAO is public information, it’s possible that these members will be lobbied by outsiders to influence voting decisions. * It was suggested to create a code of conduct / guidelines for Nest DAO members to deal with such issues. * It was also acknowledged that most of the Nest DAO members already know each other fairly well and are in regular contact which could create issues. It was suggested to not spend an excessive amount of time on drafting the member “regulations”. *What other examples would go through the Nest Grant approval process?”* For now, the Nest DAO will just be used for RFFs **Starting the Nest working group** * The purpose of the Nest WG is to: * Discuss Nest Grant applications * Come up with ideas and proposals to improve the Nest DAO * The Nest WG is a public group, meaning that anyone is able to participate in the calls. * It was suggested to have a dedicated section of the forum to discuss Nest DAO and Nest WG conversations. * Records from the call notes will be listed on the Argaon wiki, similar to https://wiki.aragon.org/working-groups/meeting-notes/strategy-wg/Strategycall20190705/ * This will includes notes from the various calls and we can also include forum tags where we can discuss Nest proposals. * Frequency * The Nest WG will start off with a group call every 3 weeks (date of the first call to be announced shortly) * Facilitator * Joe Charlesworth volunteered to be the facilitator for the first Nest WG call * Burrrata prefers not to be the one organising WG calls but is keen to facilitate the online conversations.
