# twitch emotes overview Emotes: * standard emotes are available starting at t1 * emote modifiers (like sunglasses) start being available at t2 * starting at t2, you get more standard emotes and then "empty slots" for your own emotes * the escalation of the empty slots is complex and confusing (especially as i don't know all the teiring terminology). I suspect you have at least 5. * twitch provides some free to use defaults for the custom slots while you get "real" ones created if desired: https://help.twitch.tv/s/article/subscriber-emote-guide?language=en_US#defaults * your emote slots never go away even if the teiring algo drops * To manage your emotes, head to your dashboard. On the left-hand sidebar, click Viewer Rewards, then Emotes. Subscriber Emotes is the first section listed on the Emotes page. * looks like "cheering" and "cheermotes" need to also be investigated refs: * good overview: https://blog.streamelements.com/how-to-make-emotes-for-twitch-f3e621aed210 -- some of the links in the article are bad and the teiring seems to have changed but it does a good job of answering wth are emotes * [twitch subscriber guide](https://help.twitch.tv/s/article/subscriber-emote-guide?language=en_US)
