UMCPC Presidents Report === ###### tags: `UMCPC` I have had the opportunity and privilege, from this time last year until now to serve as the competitive programming clubs president. During that time, a lot has happened and undoubtedly shaped the decisions made throughout my tenure. I would like to first take this time to thank and congratulate the committee of 2019/20 on their efforts. Your hard work, especially earlier this year in recruitment for O-week events was a key driving force for our clubs recruitment and subsequent succcess this year. Over the period of September 25th 2019 and September 29th 2020 we have held - 4 Recruitment / O-week events, one of which being online - 12 Workshops, 10 of which were online and two of which were conducted in partnership with CISSA - 5 Competitions, including 3 ANZAC rounds and two competitions hosted internally by our club. I am particularly proud of our first ever unimelb programming championships, which was held late last month and crowned Michael Zhao (mzhao) as the university champion. This is a competition I hope will soon become tradition for computer science students at melbourne and one which the incoming committee will continue. We have been fortunate enough for the first time in this clubs history to have significant funding e.g. we aren't broke. To that end I would like to thank the Computing and Information Systems School and in particular Timothy Miller for his support in our grant of $3000. Overall I believe club to be in good stead, we have a standing total of 229 mmebers and strong financial position. Which I shall leave to our Treasurer for further detail. Lastly I would like to provide some words of advice, in the hopes that it will make the incoming committee's time even more successful than our own. First, start early - and have contingencies. I would like to think and dream about what could or would have happened without the unfortunate and destabilizing events of this year past occurring. However the reality is, if you wish something to happen - its only yourself who is ultimately accountable. Secondly, focus on more than the beginners. Whilst we have had great succcess this past year in our targeted approach to those less adept, I would like to think we have matured enough as a club to try and provide further opportunities for intermidiate and advanced competitive programmers at our university. Whether that be via advanced problem sets we target each week or just facilitating discussion and encouraging participation in weekly Atcoder/Codeforces competitions. And lastly, enjoy your time and everything that goes with it. Enjoy the hopefully many pizza workshops you will hold. Enjoy the challenging yet rewarding question writing. Enjoy the server configuration and many hours playing pretend-sys-admin. Thank you Liam, Deevesh, Josh, Tracy, Isaac, Malaila and Anand for your efforts and a wonderful year. I wish you all the best. To the committee of 2021, I am excited for what the future holds and look forward to watching you and this great club succeed. All the best.
