- Sian
- Fiona
- Beth
## Apologies
## Notes
**1. Updates from Katy**
*All actions are completed from previous meeting.*
- **E&S funding and AI UK Hub**
Harry wants quote for the AI UK hub ASAP please!
Also happy to pay for a graphic designer to take the workload off Emma
Outcomes of other funding TBC, but confirmation that we won't be able to allocate any funding for the rest of the year until April (after we receive confirmation of further funding & new S+I director starts)
- **CI2024**
Keynotes confirmed, but full agenda TBC.
Looking to launch registration by end of Feb.
Need a big push for the call for talks as there haven't been applicants.
Potential for Turing to also convene CI2025 in the global south - we're working with partnerships and Allaine to see our best next steps.
Also working with Xander to get some sponsors for this year (looking at Deepmind, Amazon, Natural Histoy Museum, Schmidt Futures, Cambridge Uni Press).
- **FYI overview of how the E&S team works**
Split into different workstreams (listed below) but imagined to be fading out once new S&I Director starts:
| Project name | PI |
|-|-|
| WS1 E&S Mission Scoping | Scott Hosking / Alden Cooper |
| WS2.1 Intelligent fusion of sensor data bridging global and local scales (DeepSensor) | Tom Anderrson (BAS) & Matt Fry (UKCEH) |
| WS2.2 Digital Twins of Environment Agriculture (CROP) | Paul Harris (Roth) & Ruchi Choudhary (Cambridge) |
| WS2.3 Automated shape analysis and tracking within imagery (Scivision) | Oliver Strickson |
| WS2.4 Reproducible environmental pipelines for digital twins | Sara Bernardini (NOC) & Eric Daub (Turing) |
| WS2.5 Foster an open international environmental data science community | Alejandro Coca-Castro (Turing) |
The only missions confirmed:
- Climate
- Biodiversity
The "operations team" are:
Harry Meacher
Alden Conner
Cassandra Gould Van Praag
Katy Thompson (temp until 31 March)
Léllé Demertzi + Monica Vakil Dewar also on the fringes
There will be a big push for **Slack** to be the main form on communication with the E&S Grand Challenge community which includes Turing and our E&S partners: BAS, Rothamsted, Cefas, NOC, UKCEH (and kind of Cambridge but also not).
The "offerings" currently are or are planned to be...
Are:
- E&S Internal Knowledge Share (monthly with our partners, started Oct 23)
- E&S workstream meetings
Are planned to be:
- E&S Slack roundup (sent to the newly acquired E&S TIG mailing list, monthly from Jan 24)
- E&S external seminar series: "Envirologues" (name TBC)
- E&S quarterly in-person half days around the UK (TBC, very briefly mentioned + more deets to follow)
- Endless amounts of workshops
& more to follow once S&I Director starts
**2. Notes from the group**
- Sian met yesterday with the team and EC are putting together a quote for the space and poster exhibiton area. Sian is currently creating a moodboard using some existing ideas/designs + EC will create something. Sian will share with Harry.
- Journalist interest in CI2024
We can invite them along
We submit abstracts from talks to papers + do a press release
-
**3. Actions to take forward - 23 Jan**
- ==Sian and Katy to confirm poster call timeline and deadlines==
- ==Katy to see Harry's thoughts on filming projects with our partners before end of March==
Jonah and comms team can work on brief and work with the external production company
- ==Put in a comms/marketing meeting with CI2024 + Sian > Katy to ask on slack channel==

- Sam
- Sian
- Fiona
## Apologies

## Notes
**1. Updates from Katy**
- Summary of where we're at
. Agreed on two missions (Climate and Biodiversity - DCE and UA tbc)
. We have our 6 official partners (Met, Rothamsted, BAS, Cambridge, Cephas, UKCH, national oceonographic) and agreed (mostly) on other key stakeholders
. We've got a good amount of funding to use until end of March (TBC on amount) and will hopefully receive further funding in April
- Katy's role
"organisation of events, workshops and other engagement forums, curating the grand challenge website presence newsletter content, and proactively identifying opportunities to amplify the grand challenge outputs through external engagement opportunities such as conferences, impact case studies, press releases and others.""
- What does it mean to have launched the Environment and Sustainability Grand Challenge? At what point can we say it’s launched?
1. **Formed a focused team** with clear roles and responsibilities.
2. **Established a structured working plan** that captures all E&S activities.
3. **Agreed a clear vision on why E&S is important** and what it means in our work (missions).
4. **Identified key stakeholders** we want to engage with, and how we want to engage with them.
5. **Instilled confidence in internal Turing community** to be able to answer what the E&S grand challenge is.
- Events & engagement going forward
Found on forward planner
- How often do we want to check-in?
Montly check-ins that people can join or not
**2. Notes from the group**
