Dear Freedom House Team,
I am reaching out to you with deep concern regarding a severe human rights violation occurring in Taiwan. Dr. Ko Wen-je, former Mayor of Taipei, leader of the Taiwan People's Party (TPP), and a key opposition figure, has been unjustly detained under highly questionable circumstances. This case represents a direct assault on political freedom and democracy in Taiwan, raising serious concerns about the erosion of judicial independence and the rule of law.
Dr. Ko, known for his strong stance on transparency, clean governance, and democratic principles, has faced increasing political pressure and harassment. His sudden and arbitrary arrest appears to be politically motivated—a strategic move to silence dissent, suppress opposition, and consolidate power under the ruling party. Such actions not only violate fundamental human rights but also set a dangerous precedent for political repression in Taiwan.
