# Leaky hardware and the advent of AI _by Maria Mendez-Real (IETR ASIC) - 2023.03.31_ ###### tags: `VAADER` `Seminar` ![](https://i.imgur.com/PoZPoIM.jpg) ## Abstract Any hardware system emits different physical signals during the execution of software that can be maliciously exploited. Examples of these signals that can be observed by an attacker include electromagnetic emanations, power consumption, heat, etc. Systems are getting more and more complex, integrate more and more performance and power efficiency mechanisms, and are becoming more adaptable and intelligent. But this comes at the cost of a large playground for new security vulnerabilities. In addition, the advent of artificial intelligence (AI) makes it all more complex. AI can indeed enhance the attacker capabilities, for instance when correlating the observation of physical signals with the victim secrets. But AI, embedded into our computer systems, mobile phones, IoT devices, …, can also be the victim of attacks. This talk will present few of our research activities and perspectives in this domain in collaboration with ASIC, VAADER and eWAVES research teams.
