It is supposed to be 40% more efficient than its predecessor HEVC partly thanks to the possibility of choosing between 3 types of transforms to transmit the data residues. Since the Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT2) is already optimized, VVC's method is to approximate the results of the DCT8 and DST7 from the DCT2 using matrix multiplication. The objective of this internship is to determine the most effective adjustment matrices for this purpose through digital optimization methods.
