# Profile based on RDA example

Below the line is a simple RDA example for a monograph. It undoubtedly does not illustrate all of the possible properties that could be in an RDA monographic record, so this profile may not be complete. However, it may illustrate how a profile could be developed for RDA data using the template method.

## RDACO and the other lists

What makes the use of these lists difficult in our template is that they are a selection from an external list of properties in a SKOS concept scheme. Here is a segment from rdaco#1020

They are used in RDA as a way to obtain a *string* that is the value of skos:prefLabel. This may be an issue that is common to how SKOS concept schemes are used, but it seems that some additional code, beyond what can be included in the template, may be needed for this to be validated from a profile since the instance data would not have the actual URI, but the display label that is in the graph. This is definitely something that could be optained with a SPARQL query, so perhaps working back from the SPARQL query could provide a better idea of how to indicate this in the template. I did consider making a entity for the list and then selecting the prefLabel from the URI, but I couldn't make that work as a template.

## Note on langString

We have considered various ways to indicate "langString". In the [August 26 meeting](https://hackmd.io/AX9PUHJERCGFhe54P6LB9g) there was a suggestion that langString could be a constraint, with the value data type being "string":

If there is a picklist of valid languages, that would go in the Constraint column. Otherwise, if type is langString and constraint column is blank, any langString is accepted.

Other suggestions were that a string would be defined as a langString if there were language constraints (e.g. a list of languages) in the constraint column. This latter would be difficult with RDA because RDA accepts any valid language string (AFAIK). It does appear that langString needs to appear in either the value data type or the constraint type.

We also need to be able to code: "string OR langString" as this option is probably fairly common. That could argue against using langString as a constraint - it's hard to imagine allowing "OR" in the constraint column in most circumstances. String or langString would thus need to be a value data type, although this might mean repeating langString in the constraint type column.
