# Announcing DCTAP
## Short announcement
Dublin Core Metadata Initiative announces a stable version of DCTAP, a table-based model for the expression of application profiles. Using only twelve elements, this model provides an extensible core that can be used in a variety of circumstances where metadata is being defined.
Community members are encouraged to share their experience with DCTAP through the Application Profiles Working Group email[link], or the DCTAP github repository[link].
## Blog post
The Dublin Core Metadata Terms, first proposed in 1994, have proven to be one of the most used vocabularies on the World Wide Web. The simplicity of DC terms makes them useful in many metadata situations. In this spirit, the Application Profiles Working Group has developed a simple table-based model for the description of metadata usage rules. Like DC terms, this model's elements cover the basic description of an application profile with easy expandability when needed.
Application profiles are already in great use, but without any standards that would facilitate their creation and use.
