--- tags: circles --- # Client-side circles ## Terminology "circle"/"sub" accounts are the accounts on the instance that the user created for use with circles. ## What is a circle for Kaiteki? A circle on Kaiteki is an (private) alt account on the same instance, that's "linked" to another (probably public) account. Linking happens by making the user log in with two accounts on the same instance, and grouping them, with one account being the main one and others being circles. ## What features does this give me? **Fediverse-compatible selective post ranges** -- you'll be able to choose between audiences when you're submitting a post. ## Are there any downsides? 1. Users will own multiple accounts on an instance which could've been avoided. 2. Other users might get confused about those "sub-accounts". ## Why does the alt have to be on the same instance? It would make the experience worse for users -- having different instance setups, that means, different emoji, settings, etc. That would make UI-wise things more complicated and just straight up not beneficial. ## How does an user join another's circle? Since this concept makes use of follower lists of individual accounts, unlike the user adding others to their circle, the users have to join the other's circle.
