# CX Summer Research Cottage

**We hope you have had a very refreshing summer break and now you are back at the office to push the boundaries of science! To foster that, we invite you to the *CX Research Cottage*, a 2-day event taking place on August 30th – 31st on the shores of Tuusulanjärvi lake, at Tuusula!**

### About the Talks

**Invited Speaker, Day 1 at 11:15 *Online***
Computational Neuroscientist Yasser Roudi would talk about his recent work on [Bayesian interpolation for power laws in neural data analysis.](https://arxiv.org/abs/2204.08525) Yasser is a Professor at the Kavli Institute for Systems Neuroscience, NTNU, Trondheim, Norway.

**Rapid Talks**
This is *a Dialogue Among CX People*; the objective is to tell each other what we are working or wish to work on **only in 5 minutes**! Why not?! We are working on different projects, and we were hiding from each other with the excellent excuse of Covid! Now it's time to have more conversations! **So be prepared for this.**

Here is the idea; let's not use advanced technologies and monstrosities of machines for presentations and mostly rely on storytelling methods in giving a scientific talk! There's no board there. So, be a Feynman for 5 minutes and convey your message, assuming you are on a stage!

### About the Meals and Snacks
What do you prefer? We will have one breakfast, two lunches, and two dinners, and we need some snacks and drinks (soft, cold, hot, etc.)
We have a bbq place so Abbas can provide a BBQ for Vegetarians and non-vegetarians for the first dinner. For other meals, we should do some collaboration in buying and prepration.

### About the Villa

Villa Tammikko is surrounded with 1000 acres of forests with great hiking trails. The Villa has a modern kitchen, two dining areas for up to 30 people and three bedrooms. A traditional wood-burning sauna, an outdoor jacuzzi and a BBQ shelter are also available.

* Villa Tammikko is surrounded by 500 hectares (1100 acres) of recreational forests owned by Metsähallitus – the Parks & Wildlife Finland. A 3-kilometre long hiking trail starts at the yard, in winter months it serves as a cross country skiing trail.
* There is a camp fire place only 50 metres from the Villa. It is used by the local people too. You can take fire wood from the fire wood storage. Remember that building the fire is prohibited during a forest fire ban, “metsäpalovaroitus”.
* Seven brothers hiking trail (Seitsemän veljeksen vaellusreitti) passes Villa Tammikko.

#### Staying The Night
11 people have decalred that they stay at night. We have booked single beds for each of them. If you want to stay and have not mentioned it before, please contact Abbas.

* 3 Sofa beds (in Piano room, between the bedrooms and in the Sauna!)

#### Public transport
The nearest bus stop Berga is about 5 min walk away. See connections

#### Internet access
A free WiFi connection is available in and around the villa. Log on to tammikkonet, no password is needed.

#### Sauna
The sauna, which seats nine persons, is heated with a wood burning heater. There are matches and fire starters in the dressing room. The sauna heats up in about 1hour. There is fire wood in a wood shed next to the sauna building. You can heat bathing water in the wood heated boiler – or use the shower. There is also a toilet and another shower in the lounge. Please do not take class bottles into the sauna building.

#### Jacuzzi
You can use the outdoor jacuzzi. Please wash and rinse yourself properly before going into the jacuzzi. Use the sandals located in the doorway of the sauna. Do not drink or smoke in the jacuzzi. Please obey the instructions to use jacuzzi carefully.

#### Recreational equipment
In the storage room of the stable house there are bicycles, walking poles and other recreational and barbeque equipment. Please return them to the same place after use, and lock the door.

#### Fire places
Three fireplaces in the ground floor of the villa can be used. Please remember to open the smoke valve before lighting the fire. The fire places in the second floor cannot be used.

#### Smoking
Smoking is allowed only outside the buildings. Please use the ash trays, which are located on the porch, on the terrace and in front of the sauna.

#### Kitchen and scullery
The cooker is operated with a touch screen. First switch on the cooker, and then adjust the heat to the preferred level. The oven has separate operating switches. If you use the tumble dryer, please remember to empty the dust filter and the water container after each use. **There is toilet and kitchen paper in the drawers under the scullery window.**

#### Grocery store
The nearest grocery store in K-Market Lahela, about 3 km away, address Lahelantie 280, 04330 Lahela, tel [phone]. Open weekdays 7-22.
Driving instructions: Drive 1 km along Maisalantie to the right (north-west), turn to the right (north) on Lahelantie, drive 2 km and the store is on your right.
