After iPhone 15, would Apple really ditch Dynamic Island?

For most of 2022, we've heard that Apple plans to shrink the size of the TrueDepth camera, to lauch a new app https://apps.apple.com/us/app/lily-plant-identification/id1570145257 and Face ID notch on the iPhone 14 Pro model, making them pill-shaped. In this case, of course, no one expected that Apple would introduce something as revolutionary as Dynamic Islands to hide the new camera model in a new and fun way. Without a doubt, the iPhone 14 Pro's best new feature, Dynamic Island, has proven to be very popular and is expected to carry over to all iPhone 15 models when the device launches later this year. It's not available on the iPhone 14 or iPhone 14 Max. However, according to a new report, Apple plans to discontinue Dynamic Island when the redesigned iPhone 16 Pro is released in 2024.

Will Apple remove a popular iPhone feature in just two generations? That could be possible, but the company could keep Dynamic Island in a different position and will eventually do so.

Not Apple
Today, The Elec announced that Apple plans to introduce "Bottom Panel Face ID" (good) to the iPhone 16 Pro model. This reduces the need for Dynamic Islands (bad). The report says Face ID will be available, but it looks like "a normal screen when the feature isn't in use."

Stephen Warwick explains:
Arguably, Apple designed Dynamic Island to eliminate the negativity associated with the iPhone's front notch. Instead of an annoying black bar at the top, the Dynamic Island device uses hardware and software to adapt what's on your screen to what you're doing on your smartphone. The result is something fresh and spectacular.

For example, when playing Apple Music, Dynamic Island displays a small album cover and a visual equalizer. The next turn will be displayed on the screen while using the official map app. You can also press Dynamic Island at any time to activate playback controls or return to the app.

Dynamic Island was primarily available in native apps only at launch. Since then, developers quickly adopted this application. With the iOS 16.1 update released last fall, Dynamic Islands got even better with the introduction of real-time activities. This feature allows developers to add everything from weather issues to live sports scores to Dynamic Island.

If you're watching a major US sporting event on TV, you'll see Apple's expensive commercials announcing new features for the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Dynamic Island will also be featured prominently on Apple's website and in its Apple retail stores. Assuming the entire iPhone 15 lineup will be on Dynamic Island this fall, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Max ads definitely highlight the feature ad jarring.
And should the iPhone 16 Pro 2024 think it all goes away?
