Behind this lies Lenora, a ghost who doesn't care about whether she sits on the throne or a monarch does, so long as the gold standard is established again. Killed years ago in a tragic skiing accident, her golden fortune was squandered when the city of Orgirthorp decided to move off the gold standard. Luck has preceded Lenora, who found a less than willing new high priestess for her religion in the form of a girl who recently moved into town - Tymora. By taking possession of her, Lenora found a willing monkey's paw from which to re-establish her fortune. At the same time, she has hired the Redbrands, led by her new boyfriend, Eryst. Eryst has directed his gang to bribe various gnomes into starting riots, hang up posters enraging the kobolds, and to establish a kobold colony in the sewers below a gnome orphanage. Through this, he hopes to discredit the current arch-minister, Xandaur, and assure Lenora's ascent. ## Characters **Vistra Rockseeker (Kaitlyn)** Hill Dwarf Cleric (Marthammor Duin), former soldier, very polite, waits to take action, but isn't afraid to speak. Doesn't trust herself, but follows her mind/gut. Doesn't know how much she can trust the gods. Her fellow soldiers didn't protect others, so she was suspended from active duty after going against orders. Goal is to teach the Redbrands (Ettermath) a lesson. Vistra became a cleric as she identified with the outcasts of the village. Vistra comes to the police force with ulterior motives. From her experience with the military, she believes officers are in this for themselves. She believes that the police can help her track down the Redbrands. Lives with her cousin Gundren in the city, who pays for the apartment. Vistra sees herself no longer in the police force in 5 years, as she just did this to find out more information about the Redbrands. Wanted to know how to take them down. Questions: What would she have done with her life if the Redbrands never existed? Would have found someone to fight if you wanted. **Zoya Moonbrook (Yasi)** High Moon Elf Druid (Selune, Goddess of the moon), a former acolyte. Left after the corrupt temple hierarchy. Goal is to build a temple that is better run and to clear her name from slander. After leaving the temple hierarchy, Zoya left to seek god in Nature. Believes that the best way to fight corruption is through being on the right side of the law. Lives with Naiavara, as its the path of least resistance. Zoya airs on the side of spontaneity, but can get cautious. Questions: Did the temple become corrupt due to people, or due to the organization? Can organized religion be incorruptible? The two are linked, the people to the organization, can't trust organized religion. **Naiavara Silverfrond (Rachel)** High Elf Wizard (Oghma), all seeing god of knowledge), uses polysyllabic words to convey diction, spent so long in the temple that you have little experience with people Goal is to clear out Cragmaw Castle, which has an altar to Oghma which has been defiled by Goblins. Naiavara left Oghma's temple after her love interest (Tymora Oakenheel) had a vision during a meditation session that Naiavara should be a Mage. Grew up in a strict home, emphasized a very traditional view of the law. Oghmonia is a few towns over, 2 days away. Lives with Zoya in the dorms, considers Zoya a slob. Naiavara had a disciplinarian father who prizes himself on order. Former soldier, ran his household like the military. They struggled with bonding, were distant. Questions: What does Oghma say about LGBTQ rights? Oghma is a lesbian What does your family say? Family doesn't know, militaristic orderly household, traditionally expected to carry on the line. ## Summary **2019-06-24**: Adventurers followed up on several leads last session, including a orphanage that doesn't have anywhere to send its complaints to, a woman that should have been running a ritual tied up in her apartment, and a dwarven man who took bribes to let someone else place the human statue in the ritual. They have followed up further on Hone Kesev, after hearing his name from Heran, the gnome who was paid off by Hone to start a riot in the streets. Tensions have ramped up in the city between the gnomes and the kobolds, with posters being hung up villifying gnomes, and an increased amount of violence in the streets. Meanwhile, the detectives are no closer to catching the dark cloaked figures responsible for bringing dishonor to the office of the Arch-minister and the Ilene, the dragon seeking it. **2019-08-07**: While at the police station, the officers obtained subpoena's for the printing presses, attempted to research the mysterious footprints, received several significant pieces of mail, and discovered that the construction address that they found on official records was very different from the one that the orphanage had been given for complaints. Heading out from the station, they went to the magistrate's office, who told them they would be in touch when they heard back from the printing press. From there, they headed to the construction office, which informed them that Aedad was out on a job and telling them that Aedad had a habit of drinking and gambling. From there, they headed to Aedad's construction site, where they were nearly locked inside a shack. Following a brief chase that culminated in Aedad's arrest, the officers were confronted by a group of cultists who threatened them to lay off the case of the wax figure. While leaving in a carriage, the face of Tymora was briefly visible. Following by carriage, the officers lead a harrowing chase through the city streets, ending in the successful capture of the carriage with Tymora inside. Meanwhile the day of the election inches ever closer. With the ongoing chaos in Orgirthorp, the election results are anyone's guess... **2019-09-26**: Players went to Hone Kesev's mother's home, found out he works at a local brewery. Went to the brewery, where Hone was currently working. Chased him down, interrogated him to find out where the Redbrands hideout was and that he worked for Rancis, who is behind the recent gnome/kobold tensions. After discovering this, they went to the local Redbrand hideout, where they infiltrated the hideout posing as local workers. They were assigned roles in the kitchen, where they snuck out one by one- Zoya by sneaking to the bathroom, Naiavara working as a waitress, and Vistra as the newly assigned latrine cleaner. Naiavara discovered that there is a larger action being planned for the kobolds, while Zoya and Vistra discovered that there was an undead dog fighting pit in the area below the gang's hideout. **2019-10-16** Players followed up on their investigation of the Redbrand hideout, discovering that Rancis was increasing the number of Redbrands through unlicensed necromancy. Breaking into Rancis' bedchambers, Zoya and Vistra discovered a family heirloom of Rancis' as well as snatching a large number of papers off of his desk before confronting him after a recent ritual. Naiavara was discovered by Heran, who had recently been killed and resurrected by Rancis' dark arts. After confronting Rancis, Zoya and Vistra learned that Rancis was behind the recent attacks on the kobolds, as well as finding out that he was currently dating Lenara, who they learned was a ghost who was running for arch-minister. After learning this information, Zoya carried Vistra and Naiavara down the hallway on her back before succumbing to enemy wounds, forcing them to walk on their own feet the rest of the way. Barely escaping from Fort Glump, Zoya, Vistra, and Naiavara make their way into the city. How the Redbrands will respond is anyone's guess, but their revenge will surely be swift. **2019-10-30** After stumbling out of the Redbrand Hideout, players made their way to the police headquarters, where they found out that Tymora had woken from her coma. Upon arriving at the hospital, they encountered a large crowd chanting about freeing their leader and supporting the monarchy. Making their way to Tymora's room, Naiavara talked to her to learn that Tymora remembers little of the previous months, and only remembers flashes of a large altar room. She remembers the location that she went to for her interview, and remembers there being a large flash of green light. When beginning to exit the hospital, 2 loud crashes were heard, one in Tymora's room and another downstairs. Through some quick thinking, Tymora, Naiavara, and Vistra got away. However, Zoya could not betray her equestrian friends and went back for them. Eventually, the group reconvened and made their way back to the police station. Once back, they learned that summer interns for Orgirthorp P.D. had discovered that Lenara addressed one of the letters to Rancis with her home address, which was located in Troot graveyard. The day of the election is almost halfway over now, and there is precious little time to stop any interference. **2019-11-7** - made their way back to the police station - tymora was put in prison - went to Troot graveyard - discovered a mysterious dancing dress and a bag full of gold from a variety of places, including from Zoya's temple - Lenara wouldn't say exactly where she got it from - Zoya discovered her own name on a tombstone in the graveyard - went to Kuo-toa cult hideout - door wasn't answered, snuck in through a drainage pipe, befriending two giant frogs who were looking for a bite to eat - just got up the stairs and listened to a group of kuo-toa discussing mythic names when you hear voices coming down the hall.... ## Strong Start 1. This adventure begins with a dragon (Ilene) swooping down and burning a figure that looks remarkably like the princess. The princess, safely on the podium alongside the adventurers, is peeved that a wax figure of her was burned. Ilene is deeply sorry for this. Gonel tasks you with investigating why the wax figure was replaced. Before being able to investigate, a commotion breaks out behind the podium as gnomes begin a riot against the Kobolds. 2. There are several possibilities for how this adventure starts. Either they run into cult members recruiting on the streets, or they discover posters hung up bewaring Kobolds to the growing gnome menace 3. Adventurers encounter group of cult members in the streets. If defeated, they are taken to Tymora (possessed), who will let them go just this once in honor of her relationship with Naiavara, which she finds positively adorable. If able to throw off their attackers, Tymora will arrive driving a carriage which picks the defeated cultists up and takes them back to the sanctum. 4. Following the successful arrest of both Aedad and Tymora, the officers have a real chance to uncover some mysteries behind the recent activities. Opening up the carriage causes a bright blast of green light to come out. After the light fades, it reveals Tymora in a coma. She can come to after a day, but she can recall little of the past few months. She knows she was kidnapped shortly after meeting a woman about a job posting for a temple worker. She knows the location, but can't recall the woman's name. Inside the carriage is 3 cyphers. Meanwhile, Aedad reveals that he was paid to do nothing- another crew came in and did most of the work. The man who paid him was a skeleton, who went by the name of Skullathon Jones- but if pressed for more info reveals he overheard one of the workers refer to him as Eryst. He doesn't know exactly what work was done, but went back by the site later and saw the same man (Eryst) shaking hands with a kobold priest in front of a large group of kobolds, who then went into the mines. He pulls out one of the pieces of gold he was paid. Zoya immediately recognizes it as branded with the symbol of her old temple- he was paid with some of the gold that was embezzled. Shortly after finishing their interrogation, a summer intern from the police force shows up to deliver the results of the subpeona they issued to find the identity of the person who printed the posters- it was a person named Skullathon Jones, which can't be found in any database, but perfectly matches the description of the person who Aedad was paid by. Setup timers that put - election 3/6 - heat 3/6 - current election polls; - Lenara 35% - Ilene 30% - Xandaur 35% - kobold/gnome tensions 2/6 - monarchy 2/6 5. - current election polls; - Lenara 41% - Ilene 28% - Xandaur 31% After infiltrating the hideout of the Redbrands, Zoya, Naiavara and Vistra have all found themselves in the heart of the beast. After dinner, Rancis stands up and commands all staff into the central chamber where the dog fighting pit is. He, along with his helper (who is the original necromancer that changed him into a skeleton) perform necromancy on the body of a recently deceased gnome, Heran. Rancis, who is using the Redbrands to stir up tensions between the gnomes and kobolds, is intentionally killing gnomes and setting it up as a kobold killing. Intrusion to notice them, says that they're cops. If caught, Rancis will attempt to also kill them and transform them into skeletons. While waiting, Heran will attempt to disguise them and get them to pose as undead. If they are able to capture Rancis or sneak into his private chambers, then they will discover that he has been dating Lenara. 6. Escaping from the Redbrand hideout, players are found by an assistant who tells them Tymora has awoken from her coma. Visiting her in the hospital reveals that she can't remember anything that has happened, only that she remembers seeing large amounts of gold and didn't feel in control of herself, but she knows the hideout of the kuo-toa. As this happens, outside a riot is heard as a protesting horde of kuo-toa lead a protest towards the palace. The kuo-toa may attempt to break Tymora free if they find her. If they spot the police officers, they will grumble and complain that they have falsely arrested their leader. If pressed, the crowd may grow violent and a fight could break out. If dispersed, they will wander off mentioning that they have somewhere more important to be right now, and all will soon be put right. All random encounters are now replaced by Redbrands and Kuo-toa patrolling the streets, either attempting to gather more intel, recruit members, beating up Kobolds, or looking for a fight. - current election polls; - Lenara 52% - Ilene 25% - Xandaur 23% 7. players decide between pursuing lead on SWHNYBN cult or confronting Lenara. While they have little in the way of headcount at the moment, as they are handling a riot in front of the palace and dealing with increased Redbrand activity, the police chief does award them with 250 GP apiece as a bonus for their service as well as a small magical item and 2 potions of healing apiece. In the streets, the cult now patrols the town as well as the Redbrands. Voters are still out voting, and post-election polls are leading towards Lenara's likely victory. 8. coming up the stairs are several captives of the kuo-toa cult (1 human, and 1 tiefling), who are delivering food to the kuo-toa inside the library. They know - several kuotoa are guarding the other prisoners downstairs - the kuotoa are busy trying to come up with a name for their new goddess - ## Fronts ### SWHNYBN Cult Goal: to setup the monarchy again, as decreed by their new High Priestess, who speaks for the goddess (a mannequin) Inciting event: Sets up a edifice of the princess instead of the generic dummy it was supposed to be in an attempt to discredit Ilene 1. Cult members are seen on the streets, asking people if they really like the arch-minister, recruiting members for pushing for further monarchical powers 2. Cult members hold a riot outside the voter election organizer office 3. Cult members storm the palace, rebuilding the throne and putting the princess upon it ### Redbrands Goal: to inflame relations between the kobolds and gnomes, discrediting Xandaur. Inciting event: gnomes are paid to start a riot at the Festival of the Gargoyle Princess. 1. Posters go up around the city telling Kobolds to beware the growing Gnome menace. The kobolds you meet are mostly confused by this, as they aren't fond of the gnomes, but hardly regard it as a growing threat. 2. Gnomes beat up a kobold in the streets/ Xandaur slips in the polls 3. Gnomes and kobolds fight in the streets on sight / Lenora is a shoe in for arch-minister ## Scenes ```mermaid graph TB ritual --> gum[gnome union meeting]; gum --> pcc[police chief confrontation] ritual --> wax[O'Neill's Wax Crafters] wax --> dockyard dockyard --> sanctum sanctum --> Tymora Tymora --> sanctum pcc --> gch[gnome children's hospital] gch --> construction construction --> hk construction --> street construction --> sewers sewers --> warren warren --> redbrands[redbrand gang hideout] redbrands --> Rancis Rancis --> Lenara gk[Gelen Kesev] --> oc[Olcinth's] oc --> hk gum --> hk[Hone Kesev] hk --> redbrands street[street encounter] --> Tymora Tymora --> Lenara sanctum --> Lenara park --> Lenara riot[riot outside voting office] --> sanctum posters[someone hanging up posters] --> redbrands sewers sewers --> warren warren --> redbrands[redbrand gang hideout] ``` **The Ritual of the Gargoyle Princess** Ilene burns a wax figure of Princess Mina. Otherwise they can find his schedule **Redbrand Gang Hideout** The redbrands have been contracted by Lenara to spread mayhem throughout the city. They are behind the sewage construction job and hanging up the posters. **Kobold Warren** Kobolds have purchased what they believe are legal property rights to a new home in the sewers. They do not trust the officers, who they see as using civil forfeiture to drive them out of their lawfully purchased home. ## Secrets and Clues 1. If the door is shut after being opened, the floor collapses, dumping adventurers into the well below **Central Chamber**: central chamber is where all water flows into the sewer, or at least would normally - all the pipes have been boarded up (apparently recently). From the piping chamber, adventurers end up on a small wooden platform. From the ledges, they end up much closer to the water **Ledges**: ledges have a few Kobolds laying in wait for the adventurers.
