<h1> Dundee Pupils Redesign City Waterfront with Minecraft</h1> <html><body><p><p><br/> Dundee pupils redesign city waterfront with Minecraft<br/></p><br/><p><br/> 5 June 2015<br/></p><br/><p><br/> Dundee school pupils have submitted their ideas for the future of the city's waterfront, by using Minecraft.<br/></p><br/><p><br/> Primary school students have used the game for a few months to plan for the area that is currently undergoing the PS1bn renewal.<br/></p><br/><p><br/> Dundee City Council and University of Dundee led the project.<br/></p><br/><p><br/> The design was taken into account and so was the support for tourism education and job creation.<br/></p><br/><p><br/> In addition to the Minecraft Youth Camp that involves primary 6 and 7 pupils from across the city, students from nine secondary schools have been taking place in a similar Minecraft Youth Camp, funded by the university and TAYplan.<br/></p><br/><p><br/> The pupils worked in groups with XBox and Playstation consoles with the game, and connected to whiteboards in classrooms, reimagining and building their visions of the city's waterfront.<br/></p><br/><p><br/> 'Hugely enthusiastic'<br/></p><br/><p><br/> Derek Robertson, Dundee University's school for education, stated that the game was a "huge phenomena" that enticed children.<br/></p><br/><p><br/> He said: "We need to understand the digital environments that children inhabit and how they in their learning.<br/></p><br/><p><br/> "If we want to engage children in subjects like design and the environment then games and applications like this can be a great tool.<br/></p><br/><p><br/> "The children we've been working with over the last few months have been incredibly enthusiastic and they have produced some really great work.
