Still Dropping 32 Points and 13 Rebounds at 38! Lakers Championship Center
A major piece of news hit the Chinese basketball world today: the Beijing Ducks are currently in talks with former Los Angeles Lakers championship center JaVale McGee.
McGee entered the NBA through the 2008 draft and has unknowingly played 16 seasons — a highly successful run. From 2017 to 2020, McGee won three NBA championships, all as a key rotation player: two with the Golden State Warriors and one with the Lakers.

McGee has always been a powerful athlete and, later in his career, even developed a three-point shot. He has retained strong athletic ability and improved his understanding of the game, showing better defensive awareness and positioning — proof that he possesses solid basketball IQ.
However, McGee has been unable to secure an NBA contract over the past two years and turned his attention overseas — first competing in Puerto Rico, then moving to the NBL in Australia.
In the Australian NBL, even at 37 years old, McGee has shown impressive ability. In his debut game, he exploded for 32 points and 13 rebounds, stunning spectators with a huge double-double. So far this season, McGee is averaging 21.3 points, 10.1 rebounds, 2.1 blocks and 1.1 steals per game — numbers you wouldn’t expect from a veteran near 40.
But McGee has grown bored with the NBL and wants a new challenge — and a bigger payday — so he has opened communication with Beijing of the CBA.
McGee is only a few days away from turning 38, yet he is still capable of playing around 30 minutes per game, which would pose no problem in the CBA.
If Beijing truly manages to sign this former Lakers championship big man, it could very well end any suspense over who wins the CBA title this season.
