Brest Issue Statement Urging Fans: Please Do Not Throw Fries at Players
Ahead of their February 7 home match against Lorient, Stade Brestois released an official statement calling on supporters to stop throwing fries at opposing players. The warning came after a Toulouse player was struck in the face by fries thrown by Brest fans during the club’s previous home game.

“Don’t play with food” is a basic lesson many learn from childhood, yet some Brest supporters apparently needed reminding. With the team preparing to host Lorient in Ligue 1 Round 21, the club decided to address the issue publicly.
On Friday, Brest posted a rather unusual official announcement on social media, referencing an incident that occurred during the January 25 home match against Toulouse. The statement read: “A Toulouse player was hit in the face by fries thrown by Brest supporters during the game, which might seem amusing.” However, the club quickly stressed: “What may appear harmless can actually have serious consequences for the flow of the match and may cause significant losses for participants, the club itself, and the individual responsible.”
Reiterating Regulations on Throwing Objects
Brest also took the opportunity to remind fans of the rules regarding throwing items: “Anyone found throwing objects at referees or players may face multiple penalties, including stadium bans, fines, or even criminal charges.”
