# WWW as a Web of Our Webs; WWW and Digital Inclusion -- on the extension of **3 billion** of the world **Summary** A quick peek at the peoples of the world, indicate that over 3 billion are under-connected and many more are not "meaningfully connected". We need to open the box of barriers and seek possible technology developments for each of these. For most part the best of the technology innovators are indulgent with ideas and tools that move the WWW world as a whole forward, often supported by tech giants who acknowledge them with scalability metrics and demonstrate enormous reach to those that would otherwise be undeserved such as a small developer aspirant with an Internet connection who can now use AWS services or an activist who can collaborate using Google cloud. However, the world has evolved with timeless pass-time of storytelling without asking for listeners education or technology prowess. The stories sustain in a region using local language, Orality and regional metaphors. Internet for these worlds is akin to a traveler who is passing through the region introducing alluring narrative styles and a glimpse of the outside world. A significant perspective for what technology services are needed for these Webs within the World Wide Web. # Our supporting documents are based on our decade long work in the following areas. These are based on discussions and projects that can be seen at janastu.org ## Community Networks **3 billion strong** ref: https://agregore.mauve.moe/blog/2022/09/considerations-for-p2p-web-community-networks#what-are-community-networks > Community networks (CNs) and other community-based connectivity initiatives, previously seen as fringe projects, are being increasingly recognized as one of the central ways to overcome barriers to internet access and enable un-or-underconnected (more than 3 billion people) to connect themselves. A CN for us is an internet independent network using devices, routers, servers and services for communications, content sharing, archival and discovery. Also a platform infrastructure for deploying applications. Furthermore, it accommodates restructuring issues related to privilege, gender, education, ownership and environmental biases. ## Hyper-media Archives **4 billion strong** We have been telling stories, re-telling stories and weaving incredibly complex network of stories. How can Internet standards, protocols and tools support this basic human need? How can a hyper-media Web of inter-linked stories become discoverable and navigable content for all - inclusive of low-literate people. How can Internet technologies help archive, reshape, reinterpret, and reinvent to assist the natural ways of storytelling and help capture oral histories and local knowledge directly by the people for the first time in human evolution? ## Renarration Web **5 billion strong** "Designing for Inclusion” is the slogan that captures the world-wide effort to make the web a valuable resource for all seven billion humans, ”whatever of their abilities, age, economic situation, education, geographic location, language, etc.” (WAI). The idea of the Re-narration Web is to provide a person visiting a Web page, a comfortable narrative of the page content based on the visitor profile and contributions of alternative narratives made available by the community who engages with it. Imagine, an illiterate grandma gets a link on her Android phone and an HTML5 rendition of the page will play a video of the page with an audio narration that she can understand. ### References CCCNNN slides https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/14MkOFv4ZK53HQD6dbFPrBr4OT82DQeHCUPbeFg66GYY/ A case for community networks https://www.apc.org/en/blog/case-community-networks
