# Why Roomba Disconnects From Wi-Fi Frequently
If your Roomba goes offline, cleaning plans are disrupted, and such an operation is certainly unheard of. An **[iRobot Roomba offline](https://iroombasetp.com/why-is-my-roomba-offline/)** must surely be very frustrating to watch, but most times, it may simply be the network or device settings that need fixing.
Check the Wi-Fi strength first. An offline **[Roomba error](https://iroombasetp.com/roomba-s9-show-c510-error/)** usually occurs because the dock is far from the router. Thick walls may also interfere with the signal; interference may also come from any device working in the same frequency range. To correct this, install your dock closer to the router or add Wi-Fi extenders in any dead spots.
Software problems are another common reason. If the firmware installed on your Roomba or in the iRobot Home apps is outdated, the devices may fail to connect. Updating both regularly will ensure that the device runs on the latest system, which will have improved features for connectivity.
Router settings are the other issue here. Most of the iRobot vacuums are meant to connect to a 2.4 gigahertz Wi-Fi network only. If your router defaults to 5 gigahertz, your Roomba will keep losing connection. Set your router to 2.4 gigahertz, or at least have it broadcast on both bands for a smoother experience.
If none of the above solves the problem, you must reset the Roomba. A soft reset, which you can do by pressing and holding the “Clean” button until you hear a reboot chime, typically fixes little bugs. If the Roomba is still causing problems, a [factory reset](https://hackmd.io/CYag8nbiR7ejCgAp0HepIg?stext=undefined&both=) is likely required, but you will have to reconfigure all the settings, preferences, and schedules saved in the Roomba memory.
Sometimes security settings are an issue. Some types of firewalls or WPA3-only settings may block the Roomba from connecting. Returning to a WPA2 setting may resolve some of the reconnect issues.
If you take care of these items—Wi-Fi coverage, firmware updates, reset options, and compatibility of the router—you can avoid the issue of the iRobot Roomba interfering with your Wi-Fi as an ongoing problem. And then, you can use your smart vacuum cleaner without complications or interruptions in delivering a clean home.
