**DEPRECATED**
this entire lorebook is deprecated. While whatever scraps of information are present are likely still broadly applicable, they are not guaranteed to be up to date, and I doubt they are useful to you now. This lorebook will not be kept in-date in the future due to structural concerns regarding the use of HackMD as a wiki.
:::
Hello and welcome to the Wordtest HackMD Wikibook! This collaborative project was originally based off of the Shiptest setting with the intent of focusing on the aspects not able to be covered in-game, but has since diverged significantly. Wordtest carries a higher emphasis on storytelling and scene creation akin to a tabletop role-playing game.

## Where Am I And What Is Going On?
The setting takes place in a small part of the Milky Way Galaxy. The year is FSC-224.
Many sapient species exist, each hailing from different worlds with their own histories, and everything that implies.
Interstellar travel has been possible for about two centuries now, done through partially subsuming oneself into a different reality where distances are shorter.
With interstellar travel comes interstellar trade. The space between worlds is often quite turbulent, so trade is facilitated largely by massive shipping corporations that cover specific routes, with little overlap.
The galaxy is still largely unknown, with liberal estimates saying that less than 0.001% of space has been properly explored. All sorts of groups work tirelessly to chart the universe, each with their own motives and methods.
What has been explored has been claimed by a variety of powers, both old and new. This was the "New Worlds", full of opportunities --- and new resources to exploit.
The "New Worlds" in the present day are a mixed bag. Some rival the majesty of the homeworlds; others are uncontested empty systems with only rocks in orbit.
Outside of this "bubble" of new and old worlds is the Frontier; the Rim; the Fringe; the Whatever You Want To Call It. It is the ever-receding edge of the unknown.
Exploration of the unknown regions has lulled a bit in recent times, but survey teams still fly out and return frequently.
