# Video sharing

This document summarizes procedures for publicly sharing IOI videos via [YouTube](https://hackmd.io/@investinopen/tools-we-use#YouTube).

IOI's administrative account is accessed via [YouTube Studio](https://studio.youtube.com).

## Tips for uploading new files

### Preparation
- Whenever possible, edit your video prior to uploading to the YouTube platform. Alternately, YouTube has a feature that enables editing of already uploaded files, but it can be very slow. See [instructions](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/9057455).
- For files that contain sensitive or unusually personal content, please restrict public access until express permission is received from the parties in question.
- Avoid uploading files that contain non-public-domain music.

### Description + other metadata

#### Chapters
- Disable automatic chapters.
- In the Description section, include of list of timestamps for each chapter. See [instructions](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/9884579) and IOI [example](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3BChcyAWQGM).

#### Comments
- Disable comments.
- Include in the Description section the following statement: "Comments or questions? Contact us: [e-mail]."

#### Description
- If the video recording contains content about one of our in-progress research efforts, please include the following boilerplate text:
>"This presentation referred to an in-progress research project, subject to review and revision. Please contact research [at] investinopen [dot] org if you have any questions about the project."

#### License statement
- Per [IOI policy](https://hackmd.io/@investinopen/standards#Licenses), all copyrightable audio and visual content created by IOI is made available for access and reuse under a CC-BY license.
- For files that contain content not included in IOI's default CC-BY license, include in the Description section the following statement: "Licensing details: Please ask IOI before reusing/adapting the [specific restricted license content] in the recording. #### Links
- In the Description section, include links to relevant external content. See IOI [example](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGAmOqhZhdg).

#### Playlists
- Does your video contain content relevant to one of [IOI's playlists](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCegwdeQCanqiMoZTsp4__2g/playlists)? If so, include the playlist name in the Description section. See [instructions](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/10232933).

#### Tags
- Add tags: Invest in Open Infrastructure, open infrastructure, open science, open science tools, open science infrastructure, open scholarly infrastructure, open source software, FLOSS, research, scholarly communication.

#### Thumbnail card
- Select a thumbnail card that conveys a summary of the video's main theme, such as the title slide of a slide presentation, or an image of happy and engaged participants. See IOI [examples](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCegwdeQCanqiMoZTsp4__2g/videos).

## After uploading

If your video is intended for the general public, then after uploading to the YouTube platform
