Shopify questions below
### Let the company know about your interest working there!
The first time I heard about Shopify was little after when I arrived to Canada as an international student at the age of 17 when one of my friends actually had a Shopify store selling customized clothes and accessories. I really thought it was pretty cool that someone can just start a store online with little bit of research and make it a side-business or even a full time job. My motivation to work for a company comes with how well I can contribute to help people solve their problems and in my opinion, Shopify does more than just that. Its a platform people can use to help other people solve their needs. Along with that, from time-to-time I read articles about how Shopify is one of the best places for a good work/life balance and motivating culture. I am fond of Shopify's culture of people. Its very important to care about the people we work with, not only will it help to keep a better environment in the company but also helps with company's growth. My friends who have interned at Shopify have all had positive feedback and better personal growth overall. All of these factors made me apply to intern at Shopify.
### Have you ever had an internship or worked in the field before? If yes, can you tell us about your experiences? (ie. what tools were you working with, what types of problems were you solving?) (200 word limit)
In Summer 2020, I interned at BRNKL Systems Inc, a boat-security company, as a Software Developer. I worked on a crucial project for the company which was integrating the software of their new product into the existing web/mobile application. The tech stack for frontend was AngularJS and backend was NodeJS, Firebase and Google cloud as well. My responsibility was primarily to work on the implementation of the frontend and backend of the product. During my intership, there was a security breach in the app and I had to hold off my primary role and work on fixing the API and adding proper security measures. I had a great experience which helped my personal growth as well as technical knowledge. At the end of the internship, I was successfully able to complete the integration of the new product into the existing application and ship it to customers as the first version. During this journey, I increased my network by connecting with other people in the company learning from them and increasing my soft skills and practical knowledge.
### Tell us about a time you messed up and what you learned from it. (200 word limit)
During 2020, I got the opportunity to be a Lead Developer to help my team complete two projects by the end of mid-summer 2020 and end of late 2020. In the first project, I had very few meetings with the stakeholders and rushed to start programming the project way early in the timeline. This helped speed up some process in the first month, but following month my team was failing to meet the deadlines. I understood this was primarily because we didn't have a proper plan/design to follow and my deadlines for the team didn't match the stakeholders deadlines. Right then I scheduled weekly meetings with the client and involved two other developers to come up with a realistic and short deadlines which could be met and matched with what the client needs. I also met with the team to personally set goals and deadlines for the project within the team. As a result, we didn't miss any of our new deadlines set and were able to deliver the product successfully. For the second project, I devised a realistic timeline for the team to complete the project and met with client beforehand to discuss the deadlines and the amount of work which needs to be done to complete the project.
### How has 2020 changed the way you learn, work, or stay connected with peers, friends, and family? (200 word)
2020 was a challenging year for all of us. Staying at home all the time posed quite a problem in terms of education, connecting with friends and family as well as working. At first, it didn't seem like a problem, but connecting with friends became harder. With the help of zoom and social media, my friends and I tried to conduct "virtual" dinners, parties, etc. I think this has helped us to stay close with even my family in Dubai and India. Adapting to online school and learning a lot of it through computers has been difficult but made me realise the importance of our health. I sit in front of my computer for school for most part of the day and I felt. weak because of minimal exercise throughout the day. Deciding to exercise daily for an hour helped me increase my productivity and feeling more energised throughout the day. Along with that, I picked up new hobbies of reading different books, cooking, etc. All of this was a result of how 2020 had everyone in lockdown with a lot of time. Different activites and hobbies also helped me to keep a good work/life and school/life balance during 2020.
### If you were to open a Shopify store, what would you sell and why? (200 word)
I would open a Shopify store for beard care tools. The reason behind this would be the struggle of a teenager not knowing the right steps to grow a beard and maintain it. I suffered through that in my mid-teens too which is why I want others to have that guidance from early on. There are lots of questions like how will the beard grow?, what shape do I let it grow?, do I use beard oil, cream etc? If yes, what type or scent should I use?. I want these questions to be answered through my store. The store would follow a story like flow where it will help the customer depending if they are new to beard care tools, age, etc. I think this will really help lots of people to understand the right tools required for growing and maintaining a beard. Not only will the teenagers will benefit from this, but also people in their 20s, 30s, or more can decide how they want their beard to grow and what scent they will love.
### Any last thoughts? (proud accomplishments, cool ideas, jokes?)
My last internship at the startup where I implemented their new product's software increased their sales by 80% and helped them reach $1M sales. I thought this was really amazing and felt very proud that people use something I have created.
I'm currently working on a personal project with two of my friends to create a fun carpooling app for my city (Victoria, BC) as we don't have Uber/Lyft, etc. and it gets tedious for students to commute specially during the holidays when everyone wants to go back home.
Fun fact: I have rewatched the TV series FRIENDS 23 times and How I Met Your Mother 16 times. Also I can fluently read and write 4 languages.

### Ad-hoc Presentation
### Career Talks (Project)
*"Yes! Go for it."* - Jesse
#### Short Description
The plan is to conduct a series of "interviews" fellow omni-members varying in role and years of experience to learn about their career, learning and motivatons/ambitions.
#### Next Steps (Initial Ideation)
1. Mind Map aspects of the full project (High-level)
2. Describe/Define high-level nodes
3. Add components that make up high-level nodes by attaching more nodes; repeat until throughly broken down
4. Provide Actions to all lowest-level nodes
#### Notes
Jesse is also looking omni-level information being more accessible and fleshed out for omni-members. Potential for collaboration :handshake:
