--- title: PHYS 437A - Research Project --- [Main Page](https://hackmd.io/@hpcfung/Main_Page) # PHYS 437A - Research Project This is a four month research project at the [Quantum Information with Trapped Ions (QITI) lab](https://qiti.iqc.uwaterloo.ca/members/hin-pok-cyrus-fung/) under the supervision of Prof. Rajibul Islam, culmuniated in a publication style research report and a presentation. - Topic: Classical Optimization Techniques for a Trapped Ion Quantum Simulator - Report: [pdf](https://github.com/hpcfung/CodingProjects/blob/main/PHYS_437/_437_report__Classical_Optimization_Techniques_for_a_Trapped_Ion_Quantum_Simulator.pdf) - Presentation: [pdf](https://github.com/hpcfung/CodingProjects/blob/main/PHYS_437/437_present_ver.pdf) - Code: [github](https://github.com/hpcfung/CodingProjects/blob/main/PHYS_437/voltage_optimization_and_characterization.ipynb) #### Abstract As part of the design of ion traps, we must determine the appropriate voltages that should be applied to an ion trap during operation, to manipulate ions in the desired fashion. We approach this problem using various numerical optimization schemes in this research. However, since we have insufficient control over the system in our ion trap, tradeoffs must be made to obtain an acceptable solution. ## Results (Presentation) <iframe src="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1O-bU7Mrxxx1ZqPkxNjOgP6H4lvOjueoO/preview" width="580px" height="480px"></iframe>
