# Resume (Excerpt)
Hin Pok Cyrus Fung --- Aspiring physicist with a solid background in mathematics; loves to learn and think deeply about a wide range of topics.
## Experience
### Undergraduate Researcher, QITI lab, University of Waterloo - 2022 Spring
- Used computational and optimization techniques to solve the voltage control problem in a blade trap (an ion trap) at the [Quantum Information with Trapped Ions (QITI) lab](https://qiti.iqc.uwaterloo.ca/members/hin-pok-cyrus-fung/), Institute for Quantum Computing, University of Waterloo.
- Used python (numpy, scipy, matplotlib) and Jupyter notebooks; visualized and communicated weekly findings to stakeholders to respond to changing design requirements.
- Completed a publication style [research report](https://hackmd.io/@hpcfung/phys437_research_project) and presentation.
### USRA Undergraduate Research Assistant, University of Waterloo - 2020 Fall
- Conducted research with Prof. Florian Girelli on topics in theoretical physics: general relativity, Lagrangian field theory, (constrained) Hamiltonian field theory, BF theory, gauge theory, covariant phase space, etc, using tools in differential geometry and Lie theory.
### Research Assistant, School of Biomedical Sciences, CUHK - 2017 Summer
- Assisted the research of Prof. Lee Tin Lap's group through the [Biomedical Research Academy (BioMeRA)](http://biomedsci.sbs.cuhk.edu.hk/en-gb/news/summer-programs) program at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Carried out cell culture, PCR, gel electrophoresis, histological sample preparation, fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry, etc.
## Relevant Coursework
### PHYS 449 Machine Learning in Physics - 2021 Fall
- Reproduced [key results](https://hackmd.io/@hpcfung/phys449_final_project) in the paper "Deep learning insights into cosmological structure formation", by Lucie-Smith et al. (https://arxiv.org/abs/2011.10577) by training and validating a CNN. Optimized GPU-based pytorch code; cleaned and transformed raw data from a large (20 GB) dataset; used Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) and GitHub.
