Minecraft Survival Mode Preview

Here's a glimpse of Minecraft's Survival Mode that paid players will get to try out in a week's time (September 1st). Since the first time we wrote about the game, a lot has happened. For instance, we've seen swimming cave pigs. Yes, they are swimming cave pigs. They also like flesh but only when it's in Hot Pockets.

You can learn more about the upcoming release right here.

Jwill Great! I'm excited to play. But is this a game? This is an toy.

- Quetz Oh boy oh boy oh boy.

Citricsquid Minecraft gets better everyday, I never imagined it becoming this amazing. It's beautiful .

- sqrl YES

- Behemoth Holy crap. This caused me to realize how small my place in the world is. stockalicious It proves that Notch is a god. He invented Minecraft and on the seventh day he apparently will rest in what? Indonesia?

- wiivn Yeah better but I don't like the idea of slower destroyed bricks + limitations for construction and healthbar... It's starting to appear like a standard MMO game.

- MasterShake How can it be a Survival Mode even if it doesn't have a health bar Wiivn?

Scott Wiivn is quite retarded

Wiivn Scott is not as retarded than your mother.

- http://0xdeadc0de.org Eclipse calm down kids...

It is better to include a build mode as well as an option for survival where you only have the ability to dig a small amounts of stuff and you have to crawl in dungeons made by other people, in this way the game looks like an editor with an element of game, or one that is running in the fancy "debug mode "... it just does not look or play nor is it a world builder

" ngajoe Man...I was excited. When it mentioned "survival mode," I was thinking along the lines of Stranded 2. That was a fantastic survival mode!

- Nicholas Lee I guess it's just me I'm still unable to "get" this game.

Eagle Guys, Notch is still in sandbox mode. If you visit his website, you'll find that he's currently in survival mode and zombie Siege mode and other modes. and is keeping the sandbox game mode. The game is in the alpha stage in the moment, just three months old. It's not yet a game, but it's an toy. Notch is still working on the game's various modes. :P

- Malasdair I'm pretty certain Minecraft will be amazing in like a year. Is he using a pay-now-to-help-me-develop format?

- citricsquid @malasdair, basically. The pre-ordering process has allowed him to switch to working in Minecraft for 60 percent of the time, the other 40% for his IRL "outside of his house" job, since he'd go mad working alone 100% of the time. So, yes, we're paying for the ability to develop it more :D

Gutter Nicholas Lee : Me neither, but it's not a game... but it's not a game yet. We're not crazy.

- FISH I wish the artwork wasn't so pixelated and muddy.

It would be great with a sleeker style similar to the megaman legends.

Can the game be able to be able to support custom texture sets? It would be fantastic. I would like to make one.

- Tim L. I have an invention patent for the words 'Mine' "Craft" and "Scott's Mom So you're all going to be accused of it.

- nobody I've never been a huge fan of the super pixelated art style trend in Indie games. If it's not serving a legitimate purpose in the game then it's just fatiguing the eyes.

Okay, you don’t appear to be a typical title, I get that; but now, you appear to be like every other badly rendered indie game.

Sinoth I find the pixelized textures extremely delicious.

ngajoe Concur with sinoth. Aye!

-- Schwerpunk I've not thought about the graphic style. It just seems to be fitting.

And Notch has said that he'll release a DRM-free download version, so I imagine you could swap out the texture files within that.

I refer to the game itself as it is a good example of how important players being able to achieve what they want is to Notch.

- Anon Presenting the Dungeons and Levers Expansion Pack

+ Dungeon Mode. Similar to Survival, but you can't build walls or destroy objects. + Programmable Tiles. Pressure plates, levers, doors. Plus more mobs. Plus, more items usable. (Potions? Teleporter stones? Keys?) + Official format for public levels + Play on either randomly generated levels or player-generated levels. 100% for all players who have purchased the game!

- contra Looks great. Although I wasn't able to build anything in the sandbox that was in beta but it was fascinating to see. Also I hope the music in the video is part of the game cause it fit perfectly and I'm becoming sick of chiptunes.

-- Sparky I am convinced that there are a million amazing ideas that must be investigated every time I play this game.

(P.S.- I'm kind of with Fish on the intentionally low resolution textures, but it's completely a personal choice.)

This build really looks a lot more polished than the previous one I played. Keep up the great work!

- FISH what im saying is that the textures should be the same resolution, but get them cleaned up, and make use of less colors.

Low-resolution is fantastic, but it's not all about the resolution. Every one of the pixels counts. Every pixel has a weight. right now they dont.

- Sparky I can see where you're coming from regarding the textures and I agree. Sorry if my words were not precise. Megaman Legends is a good example of a game that utilizes low resolution, low color depth textures, but isn't deliberately imprecise or blocky visually. It is a game with lots of solid colors as well as nice hand-pixelled details.
