## Setup your cryptography
### Step 1
- Holochain is a next gen cryptographic app that uses cryptographic keys for everything, but keys are not easy for humans to remember, so we allow you to set passwords to access important keys needed to use apps.

Encrypt your local databases (the password we already set for launcher)
This password will be needed every time you run Holochain via Launcher. Do not lose it, there is no way to recover it and you will need to reset Launcher with a new password, which will delete all your existing data in any apps you have installed.
- Set your holochain password
- Launch Apps in a pre-authenticated browser window (this may not have all the features you expect in a browser)

Launch Apps in your system default browser. This requires an additional password.

### Step 1 - Backup Your Keys
- Holochain enables management of your cryptographic keys. If you setup a master seed, we can use it to generate all of the keys you use within the system. You can then use this master seed to regenerate your keys if your device is stolen or lost. We can walk through the process backing up your master seed, backing up your revocation seed for managing keys, and backing up your device seed for this device.

Your master seed will be encrypted using the a password and security questions, and provided as a file. We recommend saving this file to a thumb drive or other removable media that can be stored safely off your computer so that if your device is lost, you can still use this master seed file to regenerate your keys.

### Step 3 - Backup your Master Seed
- Holochain provides key management infrastructure for being able to replace, rotate, & revoke cryptographic keys. . If all projects used key management, this could have prevented the billions lost due to lost and stolen keys in the crypto currency industry. This key management system is installed by default, and is configured to use a single revocation key for you to be able to manage your keys.
