# Sales styles: challenger profile
It's important to note, there's no *one* standard type of salesperson that's the most effective! In fact, there are different kinds of sales approaches and salespeople. The key to being a good salesperson is figuring out what **your** style is and making the most of it!
Let's have a look at one of the most common types of sales profiles: the challenger 👊
## The challenger profile
Less than a decade ago, Brent Adamson and Matthew Dixon published a book called "The Challenger Sale" (highly recommended reading)
Having performed extensive research, the book published findings saying that every salesperson falls into one of five archetypes (personas) with one of them proving to be most successful: the challenger.
The challenger, as the term implies:
- Challenges customers in respectful ways by teaching them about their business
- Explains how to get the most out of the solution the selling is offering
- Tailors his/her message to the customer and
- Takes control of the deal throughout the decision-making process.
