# ✍️ Assignment: Dealing with objections via mail
Response rates for cold emails are usually low. The numbers vary by source, but generally fall between 15-20% for personalized cold mails (see [Woodpecker ](https://woodpecker.co/blog/cold-email-statistics/)or [DailyBlogging](https://dailyblogging.org/internet/internet-marketing/cold-email-statistics/) for reference).
From the first 20 emails you've sent, you'll likely get a lot of radio silence. If you get a response, you will commonly get objections such as "I am not interested", "No thanks", "No budget" or "Not relevant".
Remember, getting a response is a great sign to begin with. The lead is engaged on some level and may have found it interesting enough to respond. Your goal is to dig deeper and understand the reasoning behind the objection to evaluate if the lead may be qualified after all.
Let's practice it.
## The assignment: Objection handling case study
We are giving you a scenario for you to demonstrate how you handle objections via mail. Below is a mail response by a lead you have cold emailed for your company. Read it and draft a carefully crafted response.
Mail response by lead:
> "Hi, thanks for reaching out. This is not something I am interested in. Thanks."

**✍️ Your assignment**
- [ ] Draft a reply to your lead's response (see above).
- [ ] Remember your goal: find out the real reason behind the objection and if they may be a fit for your company after all. [Review this lesson if necessary](https://hyriseacademy.talentlms.com/unit/view/id:3602)
- [ ] Share your reply with us by replying below (sharing a link to an editable online doc).
- [ ] Share your response with one squad member of your choice and ask for feedback.
:::
Remember, in your response you want to find out what the actual underlying reason for their response is. You never go wrong with asking. 😉
