# The recap email
:::info
**You're in step 4 of a discovery call:** Qualify and close
:::
Once you get off the phone with your prospect after a succesful discovery call, it's time to change the medium to written communication.
This is something we have preached to our sales teams over and over again: **it's crucial to summarize key meeting take-aways and next steps via email after meaningful conversations and meetings.**
## 🤔 Why?
For starters, it shows your prospect that you have actively listened and understood their pains, motives and next steps correctly. Additionally, it increases the level of commitment and accountability on your prospect's end.
Having them confirm you understood them correctly and buy into the next steps that have been discussed brings you one step closer to winning that deal.
Checklist for recap mails:

**Practical tip:** When you send your summary emails, make sure you always use the "bcc" function that automatically stores your mails in your CRM and links it to the right prospect. That way you and your colleagues can keep track of the conversation.
When you write summary emails that have a demo call with an AE colleague as next step, you can also BCC that colleague to get them in the loop.
