# ✍️ Assignment: Create your cold calling script
We could just give you a cold calling script - but that'd be too easy! Also, we want to make sure you play around with different scripts and approaches and find one that works for you.
## The assignment
:::info
- [ ] Create your own cold calling script.
:::
Write it up using an editable online doc that you can share with us.
## Tips
### Remember your goal
* Picture your ideal buyer persona: What is it you want to find out? How do you ensure you start off on the right foot?
* Remember the goal of a cold call when writing and following your script:
- Does the person have a pain you can help address with your product/service?
- Are they the right person to talk to?
- Schedule a qualified sales conversation - a "discovery call" - to progress to the next stage in the sales process.
### Follow the structure we have introduced to you
:::info
**Cold call structure**
#### **1. Opening**
* *Greeting*
Introduce yourself, focus on intonation that is mellow, authentic, positiv and non salesy
* *Opening Line*
Short, closed question
Goal: Engage the other person fast and get permission to continue
* *Value pitch*
Brief statement of the value your company provides
Mention the problem you help customers solve
* *Open question*
Goal: Get your prospect to open up and describe their challenges and goals (if any)
#### **2. Conversation**
- *Engaging and learning*
Ask open ended, explorative questions looking for pain points you can help solve. You may also have to handle objections if there are any.
#### **3. Close**
- Next steps
Secure specific follow-up actions, like sending a calendar invite for a next meeting (referred to as discovery call).

### This script should be short.
Remember to make it short and to the point. To do this, first write your script without paying attention to the length. Then trim it down by keeping only what's essential.
Focus on the first minute of the conversation, that is: the greeting and opener, the reason for your call and the first question you want to ask.
### And what about objections?
You do not need to script out eloquent answers to every possible objection - it will distract you from your actual script and from listening. You can prepare bullet points on answers to possible objections, but leave them out of your main script doc. We want your script to be short and clean so you can fully focus.
### Engage your prospect early.
Remember to engage your prospect early whilst writing your script. We highly recommend you revert back to the tips we shared on introductions that work [here](https://hyriseacademy.talentlms.com/unit/view/id:4422).
:::info
Note: You are transforming into your role of Sales Development Representative for your company. You should identify yourself as such.
You may want to start with "Hi (name of your lead), this is (your name) from (name of our company) calling...."
:::
## 🤔 What’s next?
Once you're done, please submit your script **as an editable online doc (share the link)**.
