# EuOI 2023 Call for Tasks --- <div style="text-align: justify">The Science Department of EuOI 2023 invites all members of the EuOI community to participate in the design of tasks for the EuOI 2023 competition. ## Competition Tasks EuOI tasks are typically focused on the design of efficient, correct algorithms. Input and output are to be kept as simple as possible. The EuOI needs both simple and hard tasks that are creative, so if some of your designed tasks seem easy but creative please submit them too. Suggesters can preview the difficulty of EuOI exams in the past at: https://euoi.com However, the nature of previous tasks should not constrain the design of new tasks; the submission of novel task types not yet seen in EuOIs are encouraged. We are particularly interested in tasks whose basic rules (if not optimal strategy) are accessible to a wide audience, and tasks that illustrate algorithms and computational tasks that arise in a variety of human endeavours. Open-ended tasks, ones that do not necessarily have a known efficient or optimal solution, are welcome. We are also particularly interested in tasks that go beyond the typical format in which a program collects input, performs some computation, and returns output. Examples include “reactive” and “output only” tasks which have been used occasionally in previous EuOIs. Tasks with some measure of solution effectiveness other than CPU time consumption are encouraged. A syllabus listing the material generally considered acceptable for EuOI tasks can be found at https://euoi.com/syllabus/12. The syllabus is not meant to be restrictive, but to serve as a guideline for task preparation. To ensure a fair and interesting competition for all, tasks should satisfy the following conditions: - The tasks should not have been seen by any potential EuOI 2022 contestants; - The tasks should not have been used in any recent similar competition; the tasks should be solvable by EuOI competitors during an EuOI contest round; - The task descriptions should be unambiguous and easy to understand; the tasks should be original and/or innovative. ## Task Criteria Each proposed task must meet the following requirements: - Curriculum Vitae (must include name, date of birth, e-mail, place of study or work, nationality, and an identification photo). It must be formatted in PDF, A4 paper size, identification image at least 10*10 cm in size, in color, portrait style. - Contents of tasks in English or Finnish. It should be in PDF format, A4 size with full diagrams and images needed. - A list of individual achievements in competitions related to Informatics. The minimum requirement is to have at least 1 international awards. - A full solution of the proposed task. This solution should guide the completeness of the score (100% accuracy). - A C++ program can solve this task. - In addition, the e-mail address provided in the CV must ensure regular operation with the EuOI 2023 Organizing Committee. All proposed matters will be kept confidential until the end of EuOI 2023. ## Submission Process All required files must be placed in the same folder (.zip format) and sent to the EuOI 2023 Organizing Committee via the following e-mail: tasks@euoi.com ## Deadline All proposed tasks must be submitted to the Organizing Committee by 8 am on 25 May 2023 (Finland time). Any tasks proposed after this time will not be accepted. ## What happened next? - After 8:00 a.m. on May 25, 2023, the Science Committee of EuOI 2023 will convene and select the best 10 tasks. Then these 10 tasks will be submitted to the European Informatics Association for consideration and 4 best tasks will be selected for inclusion in the official exam. - All proposed tasks will receive a review from the Science Department of EuOI 2023. - On June 20, 2023, the Organizing Committee of EuOI 2023 will announce the tasks to be included in the Competition. At this time, the authors of the selected tasks will be invited to Finland to work with the Science Department of EuOI 2023 to design test data for the tasks. All travel and accommodation expenses will be 100% funded by the European Informatics Association. - The authors of 10 tasks selected by the EuOI 2023 Science Committee will be invited to participate in the new EuOI 2023 as a guest. All travel and accommodation expenses will be 100% funded by the European Informatics Association. - After the end of EuOI 2023, 4 authors with 4 tasks selected will receive a certificate from the European Informatics Association and a bonus of 5000 euros each. The remaining 6 people will receive a commemorative shirt and a bonus of 200 euros each. </div>
