Auto theft is up 33% in Jan. Professional groups. Cars unlocked and keys in car. Theft up 24% including catalytic convertors and general thefts. Crashes down. Dec 22 – 77 motor hit/run, 52 injury. Jan 22 32, Jan 23 22. Traffic stops up 166%. More stops means less crashes. Reasons for stops speeding, license plates. # State of the City *Sandra Seader, Asst. City Manager* * Focus group with youth 3rd grade-18 about needs to avoid gang type activities. Releasing results soon. * Big reorganization in the city; new organizational chart coming to City website * 5 admin offices in the city – external facilities, utilities, nextlight, shared services, public safety # External Services *Parks and nat resources housing and community investment, planning (climate change and sustainability codes next year), human services (senior, youth, unhoused), rec, golf, library, facilities maint, housing authority* * Poll for new facilities coming out next week eg. Library, rec centre, museum # Utilities and Public Works *Public works and engineering, water & waste services, electric services, division of utilities and public works* * Smart meters focus automated, remote meters for electric is coming soon * Waste services – universal recycling ordinance require businesses to recycle as well as residents # Nextlight *Smart city, digital transformation – Nextlight, centers for excellence* * Low income homes can get free internet and it is federally funding * City wide camera project – high use areas parks, intersections, all tied to LTE system. LTE system being built for school kids to get internet # Shared Services *Strategic integration, finance, divisions of shared services (city clerk, comms, community & neighborhood resources (consultants for town projects to let neighborhoods know about projects), purchasing, recovery)* * Strategic integration - sustainability, data/analytics, GIS, customer services, tech, air qual # Public Safety *Fire chief, police chief, collab services chief* * LEED & CORE for mental health services, mental health prof with police Dash cams # Four big focus areas for City Council * Housing is a big thing lots of departments involved * Transportation – costs went way up for planned projects * Early education and care * Sustainability, climate change, alternate energy # NGLA Information/Updates (Neighborhood Group Leaders Association) * Visit Longmont's [community involvement page](https://www.longmontcolorado.gov/i-want-to/community-involvement) for info about how to engage in city government and get ideas for engaging your neighborhood * SNS applications due – April 19, June 21, Aug 16, Oct 18; (None have been considered ready to submit as applications yet so HJ is not behind). * 3rd Wednesday – March bring project to discuss – virtual for any grant (this may be 3rd Wednesday of any month) * Annual neighborhood excellence awares amounted: $100 for each neighborhood recipient * ACTIVITIES: 1) ice cream social to name a park; 2) pumpkin festival at Renaissance; 3) pulling together diverse neighborhoods at the Shores via ice cream walking tours, and pool party * PROJECTS: 1) Southmoor Park worked with Parks Department to revise median strips with rocks and stumps(?); 2) Basketball court mural at Kiteley neighborhood; partnered with Parks Dept. and Art in Public Places * NIP: 3/8 - implementation workshop for those who have received grants but anyone can attend to learn * NAF (neighborhood activity fund) changes: * Apply when need * Accept apps April - August * No longer competitive; guaranteed * Eligibility change – 150 homes - $200, 150+ homes $400. # For Neighbors to Know * Lots of resources via Resource Central, including seminars, Garden in a Box (sell out very fast) and $$ support for [residental turf removal](resourcecentral.org/lawn): Min of 200 square feet. # Action Items * Talk with City Planner and City Forester regarding tree situation. 1. To discuss options/flexibility regarding tree replacement 2. Another HOA got support for big project buying trees at City rates.
