## Paper Marbelling

Seem to be two effects: distinct (thick) blobs, or thin spread out layers. However it looks diffuse at first (especially first colour), but as more inks are applied the density of the colours increases and the form more blob-like sections.

- carrageenen: thickener in e.g. cool almond milk (can use as base to float inks on)
- soap: dishsoap mixed in water for "white space" between inks... push inks apart.
- (optional) alum: can mix with water and spray onto surface of paper, dry, then it will adhere to the inks better

- mix alum 1 tbs to 1 cup, spray or lay brush onto paper
- prepare size with carrageenan 5 teaspoons to 5L water, mix in, let rest for 3h for air bubbles to be released
- uses Pebeo Marbling paints

- high flow fluid acrylic: 5 drops of fluid with 1-2 tablespoons of water (Golden High Flow Acrylics)
- size: 9 cups to 1.25 tablespoons carrageenan
- can use paper towel, wood peice, or scrap paper to clean size (paint fallen below the surface is okay)

- start small, one word per day
- use an unformatted notebook, so you can write as little or as much as you like

## Biltema bike battery: beating planned obsolecense

- Charged battery, but it wasn't helping on the bike
- checked contacts
- looked up manual found site saying "equivalent to biltema battery, but without planned obsolence"
- turnes out that they're designed only to work for 3 years
- batteridoktorn on youtube had some details and instructions
- open battery and disconnect power from the charging board, reconnect after a few seconds and it works again for 3 years!

## thinking fast and slow

- book by Danial Kahneman
- we are often fooled by "fast thinking" applying gut feeling or heuristics to problems that require more slow, difficult, analytical thought
- argues that economic thinking has been dominated by the assumption that people are "rational actors"; Kahneman proved that this isn't true!
- UK has been implementing "nudge" policies, helping people make better decisions (overcome those heuristics)
- "The Art of Thinking Clearly" gives a nice short summary
