# How to use Spotlight

Oftentimes we'd like open another note to refer to while editing the current one.

Another use case is you have a series of notes to work through, and you want to open the next one without going back to your workspace.

You could use some Spotlight.

1. How to bring up Spotlight (You have to sign in to HackMD first):
- by clicking the :mag: icon to the top of the editor.
- by keyboard shortcuts:
- `Ctrl` + `Shift` + `P`（Windows）
- `Cmd` + `Shift` + `P`（Mac）

2. After bringing up Spotlight, just enter some keywords and press `⮐` to search within titles and tags.

Spotlight also lists the notes you recently opened for quick access.

3. Press`↑` and `↓` to select the note, and
- Open it in current tab: press `⮐`
- Open it in a new tab: press`Cmd` + `⮐` or `Ctrl` + `⮐`
