## Giulia's 8-12 Week Probation Review
- [ ] get embedded in the Whitaker Lab at Turing and at the Early Detection of Neurodegenerative Diseases (EDoN) initiative
* Result: I have been engaging with the Lab through channels such as Slack, participated and chaired a Lab meeting, as well as followed events related with focus activities of the Lab (e.g., Turing Way). I have also had focussed discussions with members of EDoN to explore how we could best collaborate in the future.
- [ ] attend my first EDoN internal meetings and discussions (Analytics Hub, Health Systems Engagement Group, Informatics Working Group, EDoN Catch Up)
* Result: I now regularly attend EDoN's meetings across the hubs and working groups, which allows me to hear (and communicate) different perspectives on both issues and progress within the initiative.
- [ ] get up to date with progress within EDoN, in particular research conducted so far with involvement of clinicians, public and patients
* Result: I have researched material available within the EDoN shared folder in order to familiarise myself with the work conducted so far, and received further information on current and future developments by communicating directly with members of the initiative.
- [ ] make progress with preliminary literature review on PPIE in dementia
* Result: I have explored further current research and strategies for PPIE in dementia and extended my interest to issue of diversity and inclusion in dementia research. This has implications not only in the development and testing of novel therapies, as well as diagnosis and care, but also in an equitable involvement of participants from the public.
Add New/Existing Objective (optional)
## 6/12 month objectives
1. **Assist inter-hub communication within EDoN**
I will follow the activities conducted by the different EDoN hubs, identify gaps of shared information impacting in particular the clinical and PPIE collaborators, and use this information to organise and promote a short series of seminars to disseminate the work and expected outputs of the Analytical team. I will condense this information through a series of FAQ or other preferred format for future reference, and regularly update the resulting document, which will be made available in the EDoN Google drive.
3. **Select and request access to retrospective data**
I will investigate what retrospective data are (or are about to be made) available to EDoN's researchers and select a dataset based on completeness of data, diversity and inclusion considerations. I will also apply for extension of access in order to be able to analyse the data during year 2 of my project.
4. **Retraining**
I will follow and complete self-paced Turing training courses in Research Data Science, Research Software Engineering and Machine Learning and Turing Commons's Responsible Research and Innovation, Public Engagement of Data Science and AI, AI Ethics and Governance modules.
4. **Contribute to the EDoN SRE Wiki**
I will add material to the EDoN SRE Wiki (currently under development), focusing in particular on resources and datasets available to researchers, and contribute to its regular maintainance.
