# [Blue-line] ICON-DSL for Alps Acceptance ###### tags: `cycle 23 - July 2024` - Shaped by: Will, Andreas - Appetite (FTEs, weeks): 3 - Developers: Will, Andreas ## Problem The Acceptance Tests for Alps will take place in late July. At the QPM on 21.6.2024 it was decided that that ICON-DSL (blue-line) should be one of the tests for the "System Availability" test. The desire is to run jobs which has some scientific significance. ## Appetite <!-- Explain how much time we want to spend and how that constrains the solution --> The preparation should take no longer than 2 weeks by Will, and one week to oversee the runs, e.g., check the log-files, during the acceptance. Will is on vacation 27.7 - 19.8, but Andreas ought to be available if the Acceptance is delayed into that time frame. ## Solution We would use the ICON-DSL (grace-hopper branch) aquaplanet simulations, which have already run on Santis. We would prepare multiple long simulations (e.g., 1 month) at R2B9, R2B10, and R2B11 resolution, which could then be queued during the availability test. If R2B11 runs for this extended duration it will give us insight into the climate evolution at 1.25km. There will be some limited output, requiring preparation to make sure the runs are stable when using I/O processes.
