    • About community
    • About some technology
    • About GNU/Linux state of gaming
    • About mentored projects (SIZZLING HOT in India I guess)
    • About how one can actively contribute to FOSS
    • Career in FOSS
    • What else?
  • Discussion
    • About community
    • About some technology
    • About GNU/Linux state of gaming
    • About mentored projects (SIZZLING HOT in India I guess)
    • About how one can actively contribute to FOSS
    • Career in FOSS
    • What else?
  • Debates
    • GNOME vs KDE
    • Why should you use Silverblue?
    • RPMs vs Flatpaks
    • What else?
  • Fedora Installation Speedrun ;P
    • Pick a spin of your choice
    • Get to the homescreen on a fresh install as quickly as possible
  • BYO RICE? (Bring Your Own Rice?)
    • People get 30 minutes of time to tweak their desktop environment and make it look cool
    • Use a VM of your desired spin to start with
  • La Conduit
    • Wanna suggest something to the Council, Mindshare and FESCo?
    • Let us know and we do it (a bit quickly)?

Vipul's note (yet another brainstorming without erasing others)

Type of session

  • College drive

    • About community
    • About some technology
    • About GNU/Linux state of gaming
    • About mentored projects (SIZZLING HOT in India I guess)
    • About how one can actively contribute to FOSS
    • Career in FOSS
    • INSTALL FESTS? -> I have had bad experiences with this - students forgetting backup, drivers messup, complains that it's not performing as well etc
  • Hatch -> basically sync'd FAD

    • Participants
      • Active community members on surface
      • Red Hat India members -> email and call for participation to mailing lists - reach out to known contributors
      • Red Hat Pune staff
      • Reach out to local LUGs
    • Agenda
      • State of Fedora (new things happening) - collab with Matthew or make him give a live session (Vipul to propose an idea to record his state of Fedora talk separately and salutation for different areas separately) - this would avoid him waking up random times
      • Workshop perhaps? (ideas)
        • Fedora messaging
        • packaging
        • Badges
        • design thinking
        • QA
      • What's new in Fedora 36 (repeat talk from release party but we will have some unique participants)

Listing down the things that happened in DebConf India 2019 that we could get inspired from]

Swags: Stickers, Badges were distributed at the event.
Small sessions from lightning talks (sharing journeys, etc) 15mins to bigger sessions/talks (=30,50 mins)
BoF (Birds of Feather) sessions to discuss (back there it was mainly teamed wise)
The most attractive thing for new folks was the concept of DebCamp, where the last day was dedicated to focusing on newbies for Linux, college students who joined open-source sessions for the first time, to help them get started. TBH, it was seen that many new folks were hesitant to even install Linux in their system and didn’t know how to talk/express their queries out in the community. The DebCamp helped them get onboarded, from installing Linux to learning how to create a deb package. The DebCamp idea wasn’t concentrated on the packaging. We can similarly float and expand the idea.
Lastly, having people do something(issues, etc): have some good first issues before sessions to point them out after debcamp
We can talk about fedora badges as a good attraction spot, and of course Vipul (with 100s of badges) can show off there
Food(Lunch) was provided for the people for two days of the conference.

  1. Place: IIT Goa, a good place brought more attraction ;)
  2. On a serious note, the following things happened at Mini DebConf India:

    2. Small sessions from lightning talks (sharing journeys, etc) 15mins to bigger sessions/talks (=30,50 mins)
    3. BoF (Birds of Feather) sessions to discuss (back there it was mainly teamed wise)

Fedora India Hatch Registration Form

  • The fields that we would like to have (Up for discussions)
    1. Information about the Hatch event
      • TEXT
      • Paste the entire ticket content there (Maybe curate it a bit)
    2. Name (Mandatory)
      • TEXT BOX
    3. Email address (Mandatory)
      • TEXT BOX with field validation
      • This would help us keep in touch with the attendees even after the event is complete - maybe for more such events to come (both from Fedora and Red Hat), or for reaching out to them on opportunities
      • This would also help us to establish a local community within Pune for people who generally interested in free and open-source software as well as in Fedora Project (community and GNU/Linux offerings)
    4. FAS Username (Optional)
      • TEXT BOX
      • People joining the final Hatch day after the college days might not have a Fedora account
      • People working for Red Hat who would join us there might not have a Fedora account
        • But bruh, will they even bother registering?
        • Provide an incentive for people to sign up for a FAS account and provide that! A badge can do that. I wonder what else might be a good incentive though!
    5. Date of birth (Mandatory)
      • CUSTOM DATE/MONTH/TIME FIELD
      • I don't remember where but at some part of the code of conduct mentions that people participating in the Fedora Project and its proceedings have to be above a certain age
      • This also helps us to keep off the effort of having to personally take care of younger audiences and keeps them safe from any bad thing that can potentially happen to them during the event
      • Folk might be pretty concerned by this field as well. I would suggest making this an optional field!
    6. Name of the government approved identification that they would carry during the fest (Mandatory)
      • TEXT BOX
      • We would not ask for a photograph etc. of the same as some people might not feel comfortable to do so plus, we are trying to take only those information that we can rightfully retain
      • This would help us to curate a list of attendees who can verify their identities and differentiate from the ones who plan to enter the event with nothing but a school ID card
      • Is this really necessary?? Folks at Red Hat can be pretty concerned by this due to the data privacy implications!
    7. How are you associated with Fedora Project? (Mandatory)
      • CHECK BOX (Select all that apply)
        • I use Fedora Linux
        • I have heard of Fedora Linux
        • I contribute to Fedora Project
        • I work with Red Hat
        • Anything else [TEXT BOX]
      • This is not for gatekeeping but rather to understand preferences of the people joining us in the event - take for instance, if majority of people answer with "I have heard of Fedora Linux" then we would want to curate our talks to be beginner-friendly
      • Likewise, if a lot of people answer with "I contribute to Fedora Project" then that makes us want to curate our talks to be a bit more accommodating towards the people who are involved with the project
    8. Link to the Fedora Code of Conduct (Mandatory)
      • HYPERLINK and CHECK BOX
      • This check box is mandatory - It signifies acceptance to the Fedora Code of Conduct.
    9. Link to the most recent Maharashtra COVID mandate (Mandatory)
      • HYPERLINK and CHECK BOX
      • This check box is mandatory - It signifies abidement to the Maharashtra COVID mandate.
    10. Declarations (Mandatory)
      • CHECK BOX
      • We need to explicitly state about the things that we are responsible for and the ones that we are not.
      • This check box is mandatory - It signifies acceptance to the declarations.
    11. Contact details
      • TEXT
      • A primary mail for reaching out to should there be concerns/questions.
    12. Are you a RedHatter?
      • Checkbox (Yes/No)
