(250 words max) A personal accomplishment I have found especially fulfilling is conquering my obesity. Ever since I gained consciousness as a child, I remember being heavier and looking different from most people. This often led to people mistreating me, which caused me to develop an unhealthy relationship with my body and the food I would put in it. At the age of 19 and when I immigrated to Canada, I found an environment that would support me as I embarked on a strenuous weight loss journey to address my obesity and the suite of self-worth and self-esteem damages caused by growing up with it. During this time, I suffered numerous injuries as I tried to cope with a heavy exercise routine while maintaining my academic and career progress. In the five years before I stabilized my weight, I experienced both sides of human eating disorders and had to construct, tear down, and reconstruct my understanding of a healthy lifestyle and self-image. While returning to a healthy weight has brought many health and lifestyle benefits, I believe that the change in mindset that resulted from my journey gave me a new perspective on life. Because I was able to conquer a state of body and mind that haunted me ever since I gained consciousness, I then started to believe I could conquer greater mountains...maybe any mountain. ### Write about a hack you’ve built. A hack is when you solve a problem quickly with limited resources. What's a problem that you've encountered in your life where you've hacked together a physical, technical, or system-level solution? (150 words max) When I found myself barraged by addictive newsfeeds on the internet, I knew that things could not carry on this way. I wanted to browse the websites that were essential to my work without being disturbed by algorithm-generated news. Since I had previous experience building simple chrome extensions, I knew that I could hide web elements with JavaScript. In the spirit of hacking, I set out to build an extension that would make the news feed and the news panels on LinkedIn disappear. This project eventually turned into focussed browsing, which I hope develops into an extension that blocks all distracting elements on the major websites people visit. I'm not sure how successful the focus extensions will be in the market once adequately developed and released. Still, I know that they have saved me a considerable number of hours and given me unquantifiable joy because I had used tools and knowledge to build something to make my life better. ### Often times we aren't asked the questions we'd like people to ask. What's something you wish more people knew about you? Write about it! (150 words max) Not many people ask me about my family, to who I attribute a significant fraction of my personal and professional accomplishments. They, directly and indirectly, influenced my character, values, and behaviors, which served as a guiding force as I made my way through life.  My father and grandfather's integrity and humility gave me the courage to speak my mind at Google and exit gracefully without making a scene.  My mother's entrepreneurial spirit and pursuit of human welfare encouraged me to work hard to create helpful solutions for people facing problems.  My elder sister set an example for how to gracefully strive for excellence and dedicate your life to serving the people around you within the bounds of the realities of our world and the systems in it.  My younger brother allowed me to see a beautiful reflection of myself and served as a source of love, wisdom, and self-esteem. ## Comms I have the small written and oral assignment ready! There are going to be three pieces for all of us to write and speak. For each of these questions, please send them as a written + voice message to me on Signal. I do not advise you to write the content out and then read what you've written in the voice message because it's going to sound robotic, and our goal is to sound natural in conversation. I will post my answers in the group for guidance and inspiration. The reason I'm asking you all to send your content over DMs is so we can keep the chat clear and so we can discuss feedback in private with respect and dignity :) The three questions are: Write about an accomplishment you're proud of, and why it makes you proud. The accomplishment can be something personal or professional that you've found particularly fulfilling.
