Installation turorial - XILINX ISE 14.7 VM and Platform Cable Driver

Go to the [Downloads - Oracle VM VirtualBox](https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads).
Click the Windows hosts to download the .exe file.

Go to the download folder, and right click the .exe file to run it as administrator.

Click next.

Click "VirtualBox USB Support", Choose the "Entire feature will be installed on local hard drive" option, and click next.

Wait for it to complete.

Deselect the check box and click finish.

Go to [XILINX ISE Download page](https://www.xilinx.com/support/download/index.html/content/xilinx/en/downloadNav/vivado-design-tools/archive-ise.html).
Click 14.7 Windows 10.

Click 14.7 Window 10 (TAR/GZIP - 15.52 GB) to download the .zip file.

After the download complete, go to the download folder and extract it under the download folder.

Open the exacted folder.

Click xsetup.exe file.

Create a folder to share with the virtual machine. We will store our ISE project files to it. I'd like to create a folder called "Xilinx FPGA" in the documents folder to share it with the virtual machine.
And then paste its location to the text box.
Finally, click next.

install

wait for about 5 minutes.

type oracle
run it as administrator

Revisit the [download page of VirtualBox](https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads)
Click "all supported platforms" under the "VirtualBox 7.0.6 Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack" entry.

Click tools
Click install

Select the extension pack we just downloaded and click open.

Stroll to the bottom.

Click ISE 14.7 VIRTUAL_MACHINE.

Check Enable USE controller, select the USB2.0 option, and click OK.

WIN+R
type "control"
Press Enter.

Network and Internet

Network and Sharing Center

Change adapter Settings

Disable the Virtual box....

Click it to enable that again.

Back to the desktop and launch Project Navigator.

Wait for a while.

extend it to full window.

close all the windows in the virtual machine.

Connect the L and N ports of the power supply to the AC line.

Connect the DC output of the power supply to the development board. (WATCH OUT THE POLARITY!)

Connect the platform cable USB to the development board. See the following picture to know the detailed connectivity.

Connect the platform cable USB to your computer. You will see the platform cable shows a red light.

Power on the power supply. (You may note that the red light of the platform cable fades)


Back to the desktop, right click the windows button at the bottom-left side, and click device manager.

You can see a Xilinx device does not work properly.

Close the device manager.

Download the driver from [there](https://www.waveshare.net/w/upload/0/07/Platform-Cable-USB-Driver.rar).
Go to the download folder and extract it overthere.

Click the unzipped folder.

If your operation system is 64 bit, open the 64bit_driver folder, otherwise, open the other one.

Unplug the platform cable from your computer.

Right click install_drivers.exe and run it as administrator.

After the cmd console disappear, plug the platform cable back to your computer, and you can see that it shows a happy green light.

Back to the virtual machine, click devices, click share folders, and then click share folders settings.

Click the folder with a plus sign icon.

Open the file explorer, go to the folder you have set it as a share folder(your folder could be an empty folder if you have not create any ISE projects), copy its location, and paste it to the folder path text box.

Check the Auto-mount and Make permanent option.

click file, close.

Check send the shutdown signal, and click OK.

Shut Down

Wait for the virtual machine to close.

Relaunch project nevigator on the desktop.

Close all windows but in the virtual machine again.

Click ise's home folder in the desktop of the virtual machine.

You can see the shared folder in this window.

Download this [platform cable driver](https://mailntustedutw-my.sharepoint.com/:u:/g/personal/b11002110_ms_ntust_edu_tw/EVywFWF06dNAoYgKYVaBiJwBeUuFxOCT1rwyrYjELtQ2DA?e=Yw7Flq) for linux.

Copy it to your share folder.

Back to the virtual machine, open the shared folder.

Right click in this window, click "open in terminal".

Copy and paster the following instructions to the terminal in your virtual machine and execute it(press Enter after you paste each instruction):
> sudo tar xzvf install_drivers.tar.gz
> cd install_drivers
> sudo ./install_drivers
>


After executing each instructions aforementioned, you can close all the windows in the virtual machine.

Launch iMPACT in the desktop of the virtual machine.

Right click the USB icon on the bottom right side of the virtual machine.

Click XILINX

Click Boundary Scan in the iMPACT window.

Right click the white space on the right side of this window.
Click Initialize Chain.

You can see the Identify Succeeded mark and the chip model of our development board show up.

Click file, close.

check "send the shutdown signal"

Shut Down

Wait for the virtual machine to close.
