Taipei Tour Guide - Hugo === ## Historical Spots ### 1. Taipei 228 Memorial Museum Unfortunately under construction now!! <font color="cake"> **Update: Some of my friends suggest that National 228 Memorial Museum (https://maps.app.goo.gl/WkNg3mP47zCzdSZR6), which is ironically close to MRT Chiang Jian-shek Memorial Hall station, would be a nice alternative to understand the 228 incident.** <font color="black"> ### 2. Jing-Mei White Terror Memorial Park (白色恐怖景美紀念園區) *Recommended means of transportation: Take a bus* https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jing-Mei_White_Terror_Memorial_Park Former prison and military court of several well-known political prisoners, where the trial of the game-changing Kaohsiung Incident (美麗島事件, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaohsiung_Incident) took place. Very likely the best spot to learn Taiwan's authoritarian past. ### 3. Dadaocheng (大稻埕) *Close to MRT Daqiaotou station* The oldest iconic commercial center of Taipei. Also ideal for walking. If you are going to visit National Palace Museum on weekend, make sure you make a dinner reservation at the silk palace (https://maps.app.goo.gl/AAHHjHZ3vZKdEbLXA). It's a fancy restaurant providing all you can eat dim sum and classic Chinese cuisines. The value is great, and the cost per person is around 40$ USD. Description copied straight from Wikipedia: *"The National Palace Museum is a museum in Taipei, Taiwan. It has a permanent collection of nearly 700,000 pieces of Chinese artifacts and artworks, many of which were moved from the Palace Museum in the Forbidden City as well as five other institutions in mainland China during the ROC retreat.* *The museum's collection encompasses items spanning 8,000 years of Chinese history from the neolithic age to the modern period.
