World of Warcraft Developers Weigh Mobile Gaming App</h1>
<html><body><p><p><br/> World of Warcraft developers weigh games for mobile devices<br/></p><br/><p><br/> 21 March 2012<br/></p><br/><p><br/> World of Warcraft's creators have confirmed that they're considering porting the game to mobile devices.<br/></p><br/><p><br/> Eurogamer interviewed Blizzard Entertainment about the connection between a decline in subscribers and the launch of a Star Wars-themed competitor title.<br/></p><br/><p><br/> In November, the firm announced that WoW had 10.3 Million subscribers, down from 12 million in 2010.<br/></p><br/><p><br/> While others have tried to make WoW compatible with Android devices A formal launch could boost Blizzard's earnings.<br/></p><br/><p><br/> The company hasn't yet released a mobile armoury app that lets players plan their adventures and keep track of their characters.<br/></p><br/><p><br/> Eurogamer was told by John Lagrave, a senior producer at the developer, that the main reason his team hadn't released mobile games that offered gameplay was due to the problems in making the interface smaller.<br/></p><br/><p><br/> "Maybe we'll find the best way to put WoW on the phone - maybe we won't, but we're certainly looking into it,"he told the website.<br/></p><br/><p><br/> "The world is evolving towards that little handheld device... It would be foolish for any game developer not to be watching this, and we are not. We don't believe we're stupid."<br/></p><br/><p><br/> Competition<br/></p><br/><p><br/> Mr Lagrave added that the number of people who pay fees has continued to "dip", since the last time figures were released.<br/></p><br/><p><br/> Bioware and Lucasarts' Star Wars: The Old Republic launched in December, offering an alternative to the massively multiplayer online (MMO) experience.<br/></p><br/><p><br/> Frank Gibeau, president of the labels of publisher Electronic Arts, told analysts in February that the game has already attracted more than 1.7 million active subscriberswith gamers playing for an average of four hours per day.<br/></p><br/><p><br/> Blizzard started offering 20 free WoW level in the year 2000. Mr. Lagrave declared that the idea of an extension of the trial is "on the table".<br/></p><br/><p><br/> He stated that he is expecting an increase in player numbers when the expansion pack becomes available.
