# Cico City Innovation Hub
> Not just an eco-city
> by the Ecocity Design Studio
Cico.city is an open innovation and challenge platform for planning and developing eco-cities. The platform uses a customised collective intelligence protocol (CIP) to not simply crowd source, but apply a wide range of specialist expertise domains to the curation and creation or sustainable and circular economy designs.
The platform incentivises the best local and global talent to propose and review sustainable urban designs. Cico City is a collective intelligence colaboratory for future urban design. It uses Smart BIM contracting and modelling to ensure quality, compliance, efficiency and risk assessment of contracting according to the latest environmental standards.
## Archetectonic Archive
There is an opportunity to apply in partnership for a grant to develop a new form of archive for sustianable urban design. This archive would incentivise the creation of openly licensed environmental designs for the built environment. This archive would take the learning from Wikihouse and combine it with an open innovation platform for the creative industries that enables us to create new incentive models around open source architecture. We propose laucnhing this platform at Stockholm+50 in June 2022 (see below).
## Opportunity: eco-city pilot
We also have the opportunity to use this platform for a the design and development of a multi-year initiative for a global airport and adjacent urban innovation community (“UIC”). The development covers around 3,000 acres of the total 7,500 acre development surrounding the new airport and airport campus in Northern Thailand. This urban community development initiative will focus on pragmatic and relevant digital innovations that improve the quality of life for the local community residents, as well as travelers, tourists, and guests to the region. The Cico City Innovation Hub will seek to facilitate an open innovatiion process for this new development.
## Open Innovation Platform
The open innovation platform is based around open design and open innovation principles, but augments this with new incentives and carefully designed open business model based designed to accelerate investment in the best ideas. Anyone is able to propose innovations, suggest technologies, or contribute urban or architectural designs to the platform, and these contributions are curated, assessed and incentivised by a unique crypto-economic protocol.
The platform has built in IP protection, and incentives group formation around IP. These groups are structured as DAOs and are able to incentivise members with their own tokens, fund-raising and governance mechanisms. Groups may start life as single author proposals, and progress through a research phase to the creation of designs and pilots. Finally a group may choose to become a legal entity or LAO in its own right.
## Hybrid urban innovation workshops
Cico.city is a platform designed to support the process of community engagement in the design process. The platform supports physical workshops such as charrettes, online workshops, and hybrid workshops with workflow support, modelling support, team building and assessment. This is an important aspect of the platform which enables it to be used is a multistakeholder environment which engages local communites in the development process.
## Development Phases
At this stage of the project the work-group, IP protection, and quality assemment based on a customised interdisciplinary review process for sustainable design is weel advanced, but the integration with modelling, and Smart BIM contracting is yet to be built.
The proposed development shchedule would involve the integration of existing Wikihouse publishing workflow into the open innovation platform. This work would involve a scoping of qualitative assemssment criteria and integration into a suitable business model that faithfully incentivises the creation of open designs. The design of these cryptoeconomic incentives would be based on workshops we conduct with a wide range of stakeholders. Stakeholders could be drawn from existing Wikihouse customers as well as those involved with the eco-city pilot in Northern Thailand.
## Cico City Design Competition
We propose launching a collecting intelligence colaboratory around eco-city design at the UN Stockholm+50 conference (June23-3, 2022). This conference is the 50th anniversary of the first ever United Nations Environmental Conference, and is an excellent opportunity to showcase the Cico.city portal, and launch an open innovation design competition.
The Ecocity Design Studio will take principles such as these, along side other values identified by the stakeholders and incorporate them into a customised set of evaluation criteria in order to create a customised collective intelligence protocol for the quality assessment of proposals submitted to the platform to be launched at Stockholm+50 (June23-3, 2022).
## Construction Planning and contracting
In addition to the interdisciplinary assessment of the project proposals that the platform supports, the cico.city cryptoeconomic challenge platform supports and is able to incentivise, contract and invest in project development milestones. This feature is able to ameliorate issues of late payment, and risk assessment regarding highly complex contracting typically seen in construction.
A core feature of the cico.city platform is the ability to provide a means of engaging local issues, through the provision of workshop materials, visualisations and modelling support for design charrettes and other forms of local workshops. Local expertise and requirements can be captured during workshops and followed up online - enabling powerful citizen engagement in the development.
Using the power of legal smart contracts, the design platform is able wrap conventional static BIM data in legally binding agreements tied to project milestones. This feature ensures supply chain authenticity at the design stage and helps to avoid “green washing”.
## ReGovern.earth
The Cico City challenge platform is able to leverage and share expertise with the new open access journal on environmental governance (regovern.earth). This journal is focussed on environmental science and governance issues, and as such will be featuring research into novel governance, innovation and sustainable business models with direct relevance to the administration, and planning of new eco-cities.
The synergy between regovern.earth and cico.city domains will be made possible through the sharing of open data, and open research published. In addition by launching these platforms together at the UN sponsored Stockholm+50 conference, we are in an excellent position to attract the greatest minds, and the best research institutions to the challenge platform. Once so seeded, the crypto-economic incentives provided by the platform can ensure the ongoing quality of the research.
