### Description


**Gnarly AF** is a revision of [proposal 189](https://nouns.wtf/vote/189) prepared by the Gnars community. We recently upgraded to a full nounish DAO and this proposal is the result our [first successful vote](https://gnars.wtf/vote/1) since doing so. Execution of the attached transactions submitted what you are reading and deployed an open editon NFT you can mint further down the page.

## 📖 Introduction

Gnars is a community owned (and run) extreme sports club. We're a bunch of shredders who love extreme sports and hate how they're funded. We think kids deserve better role models than those shilling energy drinks. That's why we're taking things into our own hands and funding extreme sports in a new way.


[Since receiving 69 ETH](https://nouns.wtf/vote/51) to get started, we've achieved a lot, and now Gnars is now officially a complete nounish DAO with fully onchain governance. After proposal 189 was defeated, we voted for an auction house upgrade to include time extensions, a complete overhaul of our frontend and infrastructure, and we moved from gnosis safe to DAO executor. We even shipped an innovative way for OG holders to migrate to our new single token governance.

## 🌱 Opportunity

[According to 4156](https://twitter.com/punk4156/status/1628766100874842112), "the scarcest thing in the nouns ecosystem is courage." And if you've read Zero To One, you may remember Peter Thiel saying that "brilliant thinking is rare, but courage is in even shorter supply than genius." While personal values and beliefs, self-confidence, resilience, and past experiences shape an individual's capacity for courage, it's a trait often inspired by others. As the first "extreme sports DAO," the 1100+ strong Gnars community has plenty of lived experience when it comes to sourcing courage from others.


[Leadership Lessons from Dancing Guy](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fW8amMCVAJQ) by [Derek Sivers](https://twitter.com/sivers) demonstrates that "the best way to make a movement, if you really care, is to courageously follow and show others how to follow." Since we've plenty of courage to go round, we've followed the nounders courageously, and would like to inspire others to do the same. We're on a mission to foster a supportive environment that encourages risk-taking, open communication, and learning from failure.

## 💪 Approach

Nouns is like reddit; gatherings of subcultures curating r/all together. Gnars is like a mulitreddit; an aggregate of subreddits curating r/skate+surf+bmx+ski+etc. In theory, the most courageous things we fund should make it to the front page (r/all) and benefit both Gnars and Nouns equally. For example, we plan to further support select talent by sponsoring Nouns droposals that showcase their creations as NFT open editions, splitting revenue between treasuries.


We've made incredible progress establishing ourselves as a force for good in extreme sports. Since courage is plentiful amongst our shared communities, we are very well positioned to empower individuals who want to exercise their courage and uplift their communities. This expands beyond supporting shredders to all those who contribute to the culture, such as artists, photographers, filmmakers and musicians.

> Go into detail about how 10% of Gnars supply goes toward onboarding athletes, how our old gas-free governance controlling a gnosis safe will continue for NFT disbursement, how we can offer them up as part of Prop House funding rounds, how they are already part of That's Gnarly creator rewards, and how we are working with the likes of Tom Rohrer to do IRL activations, giving out skateboards that act as a canvas for our vibrant group of community artists. Really celebrate how we are like Small Grants but well connected in an already very successful collective of subcultures that offer us access to immense talent. Shredders, artists, creators, filmers, photographers, musicians, designers, labels and brands.

### 🔮 Nouns DAO droposal curation


> This is a really important part, because it is what closes the nouns virtuous cycle. We use Prop House to cultivate ideas, That's Gnarly to accept "sponsor me tapes" and Gnars DAO to essentially build our Amateur team. Going ahead with Sponsorship to submit a Nouns DAO droposal is kinda like going Pro and really making it.


> Can even embed NFT drop here, Lil Bubble's first track from his EP we commissioned! Sets a great example, is deployed by our proposal transaction that also submits the nouns proposal, and since "Never Gonna Grow Up" is an extremely nounish anthem, it makes sense to use drop it like this.
