## Set up two-factor authentication for your Apple ID

## Turn on two-factor authentication on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
Turn on two-factor authentication in Settings
**If you are using iOS 10.3 or later:**
* Go to Settings> [your name]> Password and security.
* Tap Enable two-factor authentication.
* Tap Continue.
* If you are using iOS 10.2 or earlier:
* Go to Settings> iCloud.
* Tap your Apple ID> Password and security.
* Tap Enable two-factor authentication.
* Tap Continue.
**You may be asked to answer your Apple ID security questions.**
* Enter and verify your trusted phone number
* Enter the phone number where you want to receive the verification codes when you log in. You can choose to receive the codes by text message or automatic phone call.
* When you tap Next, Apple sends a verification code to the phone number you provided.
Enter the verification code to verify your phone number and enable two-factor authentication.
**Turn on two-factor authentication on your Mac
If you are using macOS Catalina:**
* Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Apple ID.
* Click Password and security below your name.
* Click Enable two-factor authentication.
* If you are using macOS Mojave or earlier:
* Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click iCloud and select Account Details.
* Click on security.
* Click Enable two-factor authentication.
Some Apple IDs created in iOS 10.3 or macOS 10.12.4 and later are protected with two-factor authentication by default. In this case, you will see that two-factor authentication is already enabled.

**What to remember when using two-factor authentication**
Two-factor authentication significantly improves the security of your Apple ID. After turning it on, logging into your account will require your password and access to your trusted devices or trusted phone number. iForgot.apple id Password Reset To keep your account as secure as possible and to help ensure that you never lose access, there are a few simple guidelines you should follow:
**Remember your Apple ID password.**
* Use a device password on all your devices.
* Keep your trusted phone numbers up to date.
* Keep your trusted devices physically secure.

* If you’re having trouble trying to sign in with your Apple ID password, follow these steps to reset it and regain access to your account.
### Reset your password
Follow the steps below to reset your password from any trusted iPhone, iPad, iPod touch or Mac. You can also use the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch of a friend or family member. If that doesn’t work, you may not have signed in to iCloud on an eligible device or you don’t have two-factor authentication enabled for your Apple ID. Follow these steps instead.
* On your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch
* Go to settings.
* Tap [your name]> Password and security> Change password.
* If you are signed in to iCloud and have a passcode enabled, you will be asked to enter the passcode for your device.

#### **On your mac**
* Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Apple ID.
* Click Password and security.
* If you are asked to enter your Apple ID password, click “I forgot my Apple ID or password” and follow the on-screen instructions. You can skip the final steps below.
* Click Change password. Before you can reset your Apple ID password, you will need to enter the password you used to unlock your Mac.
#### With macOS Mojave, High Sierra or Sierra:
* Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click iCloud.
* Choose Account Details.
If you are asked to enter your Apple ID password, click “I forgot my Apple ID or password” and follow the on-screen instructions. You can skip the final steps below.
* Click Security> Reset password or Change password. Before you can reset your Apple ID password, you will need to enter the password you used to unlock your Mac.
* Use a trusted phone number, trusted email, or recovery key
* You may be able to reset your password using a trusted phone number or trusted email. If you have a recovery key, you can use the recovery key to help reset your password.
* Manage your account
* You can manage your trusted phone numbers, trusted devices, and other account information from your Apple ID account page.
#### Keep your trusted phone numbers updated
To use two-factor authentication, you need at least a trusted phone number on file where you can receive verification codes. iForgot.apple id Password Reset Consider verifying an additional trusted phone number other than your own phone number. If your iPhone is your only reliable device and it is missing or damaged, you will not be able to receive the verification codes necessary to access your account.

You can view and manage a list of your trusted devices on iOS, macOS, and in the Devices section of your Apple ID account page.
#### **On iOS:**
* Go to Settings> [your name].
* Select a device from the list.
* On macOS Catalina:
* Choose Apple menu > System Preferences.
* Select Apple ID.
* Select a device from the sidebar.
#### **On macOS Mojave or earlier:**
* Choose Apple menu > System Preferences.
* Select iCloud, then click Account Details.
* Click on the Devices tab.
* Select a device from the list.
#### **In the net:**
* Go to your Apple ID account page.
* Sign in with your Apple ID.
* Go to the Devices section.
The device list shows the devices you are currently signed in to with your Apple ID. Select a device to view device information, such as model and serial number. Below that, you can see other useful information, including whether or not the device is trustworthy and whether it can be used to receive Apple ID verification codes.
You can also remove a trusted device by selecting Remove from the account from the device list. Deleting a trusted device will ensure that you can no longer display verification codes and that access to iCloud and other Apple services on the device is blocked until you log in again with two-factor authentication. If you need to search or delete your device before removing it from your list of trusted devices, you can use Find My iPhone.
