* 3. **What is the name of your CNCF project or Kubernetes governance group?**
**containerd**
* 4. **Please provide 2-3 sentences describing the project**
containerd is an industry-standard container runtime with an emphasis on simplicity, robustness and portability. It is available as a daemon for Linux and Windows, which can manage the complete container lifecycle of its host system: image transfer and storage, container execution and supervision, low-level storage and network attachments, etc.
* 5. **From the past six months, what are your top three initiatives that should be highlighted, lauded, or shout out that your group is proud of?**
1. Added new ways to integrate with containerd, including a new Sandbox API for managing VM-based runtime and a new extension point for controlling image pulling.
2. Added support for new features in kubernetes like user namespaces and in-place updates of pod resources.
3. Introduced rust extension to provide lightweight shim framework for runtime author. Runc-Rust-shim is already supported.
* 6. **Please provide an adopter impact regarding at least one of the three initiatives listed above.**
The Sandbox API aims to manage compute/network/storage resources from pod’s perspective in an efficient way. It is designed for VM-based runtimes such as Kata Containers, Firecracker, gVisor and others. This new extension point will increase VM-based runtime adoption and features in multi-tenant kubernetes ecosystem.
* 7. **Describe your most impactful and recent publication or release and the expected adopter action or relevance to the community in 3-5 sentence.**
We released containerd 1.6 in early 2022, which is our first official long-term stable release. This release brings many improvements and increases overall stability while guaranteeing a longer support window for our many users.
* 8. **Is there anything that we can say on your behalf to increase project success, such as a specific call to action or anything outstanding that you want KubeCon attendees to take action on?**
If containerd interests you, watch our talks at this Kubecon and come join our community meetings to hear the latest of whats going on in the project.
