# New Zealand English Act 2021
The Parliament of New Zealand enacts as follows:
## 1. Title
This Act is the New Zealand English Act 2021.
## 2. Commencement
This Act comes into force on the day after the date on which it receives the Royal Assent.
## 3. Purpose
The purpose of this Act is to add New Zealand English as an offical language of New Zealand
## 4. New Zealand Sign Language to be an official language of New Zealand
New Zealand English is declared to be an official language of New Zealand.
## 8. Effect of recognition
(1) Section 4 does not create any legally enforceable rights.
**Explanatory Notes**
**General Policy Statement**
This bill will recognise New Zealand English as an offical language of New Zealand. The language has been an unoffical language of the country, but this legislation will change this and allow for New Zealand English to be recognised as an offical language along with NZSL and Te Reo Māori.
