--- robots: nofollow, noindex tags: internship --- # Internship tips and thoughts ## Tips - Set workspace, Set work hours - Turn on your camera - Don't to get some excercise, walk, or something else - Regular meeting with your mentor to work through issues - You don't have to be online all the time - This is not a normal thing - If you hit issues make sure you speak up ## Community / part of the team - Connection - Connect regularly - Daily meeting - Frequent chats on teams ## Success - Need to have a good picture by week 6 - How do they connect and go about the problem - How do they remove barriers and deal with ambigutity ## Things to think about - Encourage asking questions, encouraging interns connect to us on teams - Answer thier questions promptly - Be available for them - Dedicate time for them to come bring questions. - Integrate them in as a member of the team. Don't give them a seperate isolated project - Autonomy and trust - Give them space, let them excercise thier own judgment - Create clear accountability - Thought: Teams is better than knocking on doors - Be responsive and welcoming on teams - This is true for mentor **and** the whole team - What can we learn from interns? ## Setup - Talk with intern ahead of time about how they like to communicate - Direct conversation about communication and work style ## end purpose - Interns evaluating what they want to do - We evaluating if interns are good fit
