conlangs, from space! is an online forum, and has associated rules and guidelines to keep everyone safe on this platform. All members, including staff, are expected to contribute to a welcoming environment for everyone to participate in.

Community guidelines

conlangs, from space! is a diverse community of people of all kinds, and aims to be inclusive and protective of marginalized and oppressed peoples. conlangs, from space! and all members pledge to making participation in our forum a harassment-free experience for everyone—regardless of age, body size, disability, ethnicity, sex characteristics, gender identity and expression, education, socio-economic status, nationality, personal appearance, race, religion (or lack thereof), or sexual identity and orientation. Black lives matter. Trans rights are human rights.

Members of conlangs, from space! are open, considerate, and respectful. Behaviors that reinforce these values contribute to a positive environment, and include, but is not limited to:

  • Being kind
  • Being considerate
  • Using welcoming and inclusive language
  • Being respectful of differing viewpoints and lived experiences
  • Accepting of constructive criticism
  • Focusing on what is best for the community

Examples of unacceptable behaviors by members include, but is not limited to:

  • The use of sexualized language or imagery and unwelcome sexual attention or advances
  • Deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following
  • Trolling and personal attacks
  • Violent threats or language directed at another person or incitement of violent behavior towards any individual, including encouraging a person to engage in self-harm
  • Harassment in any form
  • Insults, put downs, or jokes that are based upon stereotypes or are exclusionary
  • Publishing others' private information without explicit permission
  • Responding to another person's tone instead of the content of what they said

Additionally, there are some guidelines specific to topics on this forum, as this is a constructed languages and linguistics focused space. Examples of welcome behaviors in this facet include, but is not limited to:

  • Being respectful towards those who speak a language differently
  • Having a descriptivist mindset, especially when talking about natural languages
  • Giving constructive criticism instead of hurtful attacks
  • Asking first before criticizing someone's personal work or project

Forum rules

There are standard forum etiquette rules that help keep our space clean and tidy. These are left up to interpretation as necessary to make it easier on moderation.

  • Don't spam with nonsense or advertisements.
  • Utilize tags correctly; see our Guide to Tags for more information.
  • Start topics in the correct category.
  • Limit cross-posting as much as possible.
  • Keep posts on-topic and meaningful.
  • Do not break any law in the United States of America.
  • Do not break copyright law. If you do not maintain the rights to share something, such as if it is a pirated material, do not share it. If relevant, snippets and proper fair use of copyrighted material are allowed.
