# Announcing the new Anaconda installer
## Development history
Started in 2021, the Anaconda team played with the first proof of concept and the development is active since then, receiving a lot of support from the Cockpit and Composer teams.
While the backend had a lot more focus on automated testing, with the end result having around 300 tests for different use cases, the interface went from a lot of basic ideas to design decisions based on user studies and questionaires, as each aspect of the new UI was discussed many times and put through basic user testing.
Our special thanks go to those from the community who helped during with the testing phase, most of them which came from the [preview image testing phase](https://fedoramagazine.org/anaconda-web-ui-preview-image-now-public/).
## Main points of how the new installer improves upon the old one:
- a redesigned user interface that uses the "wizard" design, which looks more familiar while also resolving many of the pain points users had with the older "hub-and-spoke" design;
- improved support for installing over the network, which is specially useful for servers and machines with remote access;
- guided disk partitioning, an easier solution for custom installations;
- a better-focused set of features to reduce the burden on the maintainers and developers;
- faster development and great automation support, specially due to the support from the well stablished Cockpit project;
