The date is 20th May 2025. The OpenID is being replaced by OpenIDConnect (OIDC) in most of the modern web and most of the Fedora infrastructure is already using OIDC as the default authentication method. OIDC offers us better security by handling both authentication and authorization. It also allows us to have more control over services that are using Fedora Account System (FAS) for authentication. * Proposal to move Community Blog to Fedora Discussion * https://communityblog.fedoraproject.org/proposal-to-move-community-blog-to-fedora-discussion/ * See this proposal from March to migrate the Fedora Community Blog to Fedora Discussion. Although this proposal does not yet have an owner, we have not received strongly negative feedback on this proposal yet. In the coming quarter or two, this could be a good candidate project for CommOps if we find someone to be the project lead. * Flock is coming: 5-8 June 2025, Prague CZ * https://fedoraproject.org/flock/2025/ * The annual Fedora contributor conference, Flock, is open for registration. The final event schedule is due very soon. We hope you could consider joining us in Prague this year if it is possible for you. If you need help with travel advice or getting to know more info about the event, join #flock:fedoraproject.org on Matrix. ### DEI Advisor updates to the team * none ### Follow-ups from last meeting * DEI event policy discussion in the Council * https://pagure.io/Fedora-Council/tickets/issue/502 ### Ticket-driven discussion & notes * Fedora Mentor Summit * Checking in on existing progress and walking through the current status of the event * General planning issue: https://gitlab.com/fedora/dei/home/-/issues/53 * Specific projects for Mentor Summit: https://gitlab.com/fedora/dei/home/-/issues/53#note_2359419832 * Coming soon, volunteer roles for Flock & Mentor Summit: https://gitlab.com/fedora/commops/home/-/merge_requests/33 * Opportunities to volunteer coming next week * For Outreachy applicants: Unlikely to get very far on this by the April 15th deadline, but there is lots of potential to get real experience, network with professionals in the industry, and add a line to your CV by getting involved even after the application phase ends. * Outreachy applicant Q&A * We used the second-half of the call to answer various questions from applicants! * Don't forget to spend time on your portfolios and use this as a chance to showcase your contributions and efforts over the last month. * Be wary about using AI for your contributions. Unfortunately, it is a lot easier to make bad contributions with AI than good contributions. Consider avoiding the use of AI, or use it as minimally as possible. We want to get to know you, and it is not a goal to make every contribution perfect! ### Open floor * ### Highlights For the quick links and questions shared during the call, [you can find it here as well](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1FRQO4DSLtTfr1Qniv3XXkgA-vo0fKcNuxssSLreGJa4/edit?usp=sharing). ## 2025-03-20 **Chair**: Amita Sharma (amsharma) Attendees: * ### Team announcements & news * ### DEI Advisor updates to the team * ### Follow-ups from last meeting * ### Ticket-driven discussion & notes * ### Open floor * **Matrix meeting notes:** https://meetbot.fedoraproject.org/meeting_matrix_fedoraproject-org/2025-03-20/diversity.2025-03-20-11.30.log.html ## 2025-03-06 **Chair**: Jona Azizaj (jonatoni) - she / her / hers Attendees: * Robert Wright (rwright) - he / him / his * Amita Sharma (amsharma) * emma kidney (ekidney) - she / her / hers * misc ### Team announcements & news * Fedora is accepted to GSoC :tada: * Meet the Fedora Project Mentors for Google Summer of Code 2025 * https://fedoramagazine.org/meet-the-fedora-project-mentors-for-google-summer-of-code-2025/ * Proposal to move Community Blog to Fedora Discussion * https://communityblog.fedoraproject.org/proposal-to-move-community-blog-to-fedora-discussion/ * Contribute at the Fedora Linux 42 i18n Test Week * The i18n and QA teams have organized a test week from Tuesday, March 04, 2025, to Monday, March 10, 2025 * https://fedoramagazine.org/contribute-at-the-fedora-linux-42-i18n-test-week/ ### DEI Advisor updates to the team * Council Policy Proposal: DEI Events Policy * https://communityblog.fedoraproject.org/council-policy-proposal-dei-events-policy/ * This proposal is now open to our community discussion for a period of two weeks, after which the Council will hold a formal vote. Major highlights were a new events media git repo for photos, videos, and slides; Fedora Week of Diversity; and preparations for Flock. * [due: 2024-10-17] @ekidney Create first draft of 2024 Q2 report for DEI Team review, then share with CommBlog editors for review after DEI Team +1's * Ticket #34: "DEI policy for Flock location" * https://gitlab.com/fedora/dei/home/-/issues/34 * !agreed The event policy will be scoped explicitly to Flock to Fedora and Fedora-funded hackfests. New language will be added for hackfests that provides exemption for hackfests that focus on a regional, local, or national group or audience. The Council retains the ability to override the policy by publishing a public explanation. ### Open floor * none **Matrix meeting notes:** https://meetbot.fedoraproject.org/meeting_matrix_fedoraproject-org/2024-10-10/diversity.2024-10-10-13.01.log.html ## 2024-09-26 **Chair**: Jona Azizaj; she/her; jonatoni; Attendees (name; pronouns; FAS ID; favorite pizza) * Justin/JWF; he/him; jflory7; * Michael Scherer; he/him; misc; ### Team announcements & news * Flock bid process was started * DEI policy not discussed yet by Council, but taken in account for bid ### DEI Advisor updates to the team * none ### Follow-ups from last meeting * none ### Ticket-driven discussion & notes * #44 wrap up report for the Hackfest * #25 wrap up report for the mentor summit 2024 * #34 not discussed in council, next meeting * #18 ticket was bumped * Others tickets got move to Q4 and/or moved accordingly, see tickets changes ### Open floor * discussion on regional communities, as discussed in hackfest ## 2024-08-29 **Chair**: Jona Azizaj; she/her; jonatoni; chocolate/pistachio Attendees (name; pronouns; FAS ID; favorite ice cream flavor/s) * Justin/JWF; he/him; jflory7; birthday cake * Michael Scherer; he/him; misc; coffee ### Team announcements & news * Flock 2024 happened this month! :tada: Share your own event reports and any social media coverage in a section on the Fedora Wiki. * https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Flock_2024#Event_reports_&_social_media * The Flock 2024 post-event survey is live until Friday, September 6th. We have done great work! * But the part about DEI communities has not gotten as much work and effort. Brainstorming on how we could do this better? * DEI policy for Flock location: https://gitlab.com/fedora/dei/home/-/issues/34. We reviewed the recent changes made by @misc and looked at the timeline for making this policy a reality. Here are the key takeaways: * Proposed to consolidate the two policies (event location and event location policy change policy) into a single document. * The parts of the policy change policy that do not fit into the Council Policy Change Policy can become guidelines or recommendations within the proposed event location policy. * This avoids the inherent implication of converting the DEI Team into a policy-making group, which as of today, we are not and do not have any official charge to do so, other than via the DEI Advisor representative to the Fedora Council. By directing this policy to the Council instead of the DEI Team, we lean into the existing structure and avoid opening a new discussion about whether the DEI Team has the authority to mandate project-wide policy. * I felt that some of the criteria evaluation could be more clear for non-native English speakers, e.g. "Hierarchy of Norms" and "Temporality" may be difficult terms to understand even for native English speakers. If we cannot think of something else, we could brainstorm in a future call. * Our goal is to revisit the policy discussion asynchronously throughout July, and aim to have a final draft ready by our next A/V meeting on Thursday, August 1st. Then, we will review and see if we are ready to propose this as a new policy to the Fedora Council. ### Open floor * None ## 2024-06-06 Chair: Jona Azizaj, she/her, jonatoni, matcha bubble tea ๐Ÿง‹ Attendees (name; pronouns; FAS ID; favorite summer drink) * Justin/JWF; he/him; jflory7; pomegranate sparkler (pom juice, sparkling water, lime) * Michael/Misc; he/him; misc; water * Adrian; he/him; moralcode; lemonade probably * Roseline ### Team announcements & news * Fedora DEI Team 2024 Q1 Report: https://communityblog.fedoraproject.org/fedora-dei-team-2024-q1-report/ * Fedora Linux 40 election results: https://communityblog.fedoraproject.org/fedora-linux-40-election-results/ * Fedora Ops Architect Weekly: https://communityblog.fedoraproject.org/fedora-ops-architect-weekly-9/ * Register and join Fedora Week of Diversity: https://pretix.eu/fedora/fwd2024/ * F40 RP report: https://communityblog.fedoraproject.org/fedora-linux-40-release-party-celebrating-community-innovation/ ### DEI Advisor updates to the team * Strategy 2028 updates: https://discussion.fedoraproject.org/t/todays-working-session-on-strategy-2028/117865 ### Follow-ups from last meeting * โœ… AI: misc, Robert Wright (he/him), Sarah Thornton (she/her) Work on DEI events policy draft for DEI Team review * Ticket link: https://gitlab.com/fedora/dei/home/-/issues/34 * Update from misc: draft proposal link https://gitlab.com/misc/fedora-dei-docs/-/tree/dei_proposal/modules/ROOT/pages/policy?ref_type=heads (a proposal for proposing, a proposal for applying) * ๐ŸŸ  AI: @ekidney Create new featured image for DEI Team quarterly updates * โœ… AI: @jflory7 Promote FWD call for videos on social media ### Ticket-driven discussion & notes Q2: https://gitlab.com/fedora/dei/home/-/milestones/5 * DEI policy for Flock location: https://gitlab.com/fedora/dei/home/-/issues/34 * We reviewed the draft that misc has created and provided feedback on GitLab issue #34. * https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/council/policy/policy-change-policy/ * When the policy is ready, misc will open a ticket with the Council. * Fedora Week of Diversity updates: https://gitlab.com/fedora/dei/home/-/issues/19 * Agenda coming soon, to be published.
